QQQ was down -6% yesterday for the first time in 200+ trading days. I thought you'd not only like to see how QQQ did the day after such events ("Return That Day" below), but also how it did the NEXT day (which would be Monday in the current scenario). [2020 below is COVID.]

BREAKING: Iran directly rejects today's reports of a US-Iran deal breakthrough, saying "no new developments have occurred in this regard." Oil prices crashed nearly 8% today based on the false claim of a breakthrough. Iran says "definitely no new events or actions will take place" until the US fulfils all of Iran's 7 conditions.

I asked Grok about the trading behavior around tech earnings before the 2000 crash, and it confirms good earnings reports triggered selloffs at the top of the bubble. That's what we saw this week. The 2000 Dot-Com Crash Tech and internet stocks showed a systematic pattern of post-earnings sell-offs even when results were solid or better than expected. This was especially pronounced in the frothy late-1990s environment and continued after the Nasdaq peaked in March 2000. A University of California, Berkeley study (Trueman, Wong, and Zhang) of internet firms from January 1998 to August 2000 found: Prices typically ran up in the days before earnings announcements. They reversed and fell in the days afterward. The pattern held regardless of the actual earnings or revenue news. It persisted into the crash period (including October–November 2000). Contemporary market reports from mid-2000 (after the March peak) reinforce this. Stocks often sold off when companies merely met or slightly beat expectations, or when guidance was cautious. Examples include: Microsoft, Intel, and Apple in July 2000 — results that were in-line or only modestly better triggered sharp declines amid fears that high growth rates could not continue indefinitely. Multiple cases of “beat estimates but stock crushed” behavior, including Amazon (better-than-expected loss but slight revenue miss) and various internet names. This fits the classic “sell the news” dynamic in highly speculative, high-valuation environments: good results were already priced in, and any hint of slowing growth or “not good enough” guidance was punished heavily. The Nasdaq ultimately fell ~78% from its March 2000 peak to the October 2002 low.

BREAKING: Pentagon investigates suspected cyberattack after freezers at 6 US military bases mysteriously malfunctioned, spoiling large quantities of food, per Reuters. In at least one of the cases, the freezers did not simply stop working. Instead, the cooling units’ temperatures were cranked up overnight, yielding massive amounts of wilted or melted food in the morning. It comes as the Pentagon prepares every major US military base to operate for at least 90 days without outside electricity, fuel, water or supplies, anticipating a major war.

Anthropic Q3 was bad, but the draft S-1 blanks out ALL key figures, so it can be proven. The financial engineering that juiced the story only goes through Q2, but the fudged books expire Nov 12; after that, Anthropic can’t IPO on stale numbers (Strict SEC rule, sorry).
Free newsletter: Anthropic’s S-1 uses an anomalous quarter to con investors into becoming its exit liquidity, and explicitly states that its costs will grow aggressively as margins decline. Its $430bn in non-cancellable contracts are yet to start hitting. wheresyoured.at/exit-liquidi…

BREAKING: WSJ: The U.S. has told several Gulf Arab countries to be prepared for a short, intense military campaign after the U.S. midterm elections. President Trump is leaning toward a large post election attack that could target Iranian infrastructure and nuclear sites. The communications through diplomatic and military channels are among a growing number of indications that the U.S. and Israel are readying to launch a new round of heavy combat operations against Iran, risking a major escalation in hopes of degrading Tehran’s strength and pushing it toward negotiations. wsj.com/world/middle-east/u-…
