The image is a great example of the Mercator effect, which happens because the Mercator projection stretches the map more and more as you move away from the equator.
This means places like Russia or northern Europe look much bigger than they really are, while areas near the equator, like Africa, actually get squished and look smallerโeven though Africa is way bigger in real life.
So, on this map, Africa looks about the same width as Russia, but in reality, Africa is much largerโit's just the map making things look weird because it's trying to flatten a round Earth onto a rectangle.

Grace is not always met with gratitude, and thatโs OK. Some are given chances they never earned, offered dignity, opportunity, even forgiveness. Yet they respond with bitterness.
Thatโs not confusion. Thatโs clarity. Believe it!

Kwibuka 31 โ We Remember. We Speak.
This image carries more than a scar โ it carries memory, truth, and resilience.
I was 11 years old during the Genocide Against the Tutsi.
What I saw, what I survived, and what I lost can never be forgotten.
But through pain, I found my voice again.
And through my book A Broken Life, I chose to speak for myself, and for others who cannot.
As a survivor and an author, I carry the past, but I also write the future.
Let us remember. Let us honor.
Let us speak, heal, and rise โ together.

๐ The EAC, in solidarity with the Government and people of the Republic of Rwanda, will commemorate the 31st Anniversary of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi on 7th April 2025.
This annual commemoration serves as a solemn reminder of the atrocities committed in Rwanda from April to July 1994 and reinforces the collective responsibility of the international community to combat genocide and its ideologies.
In 2014, the United Nations and the African Union designated 7th April as a day of remembrance for the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
This year, the EAC stands united with the Republic of Rwanda and the international community to honour the victims and promote a culture of tolerance and peaceful coexistence across the East African region.
The EAC will host several activities, including a Walk to Remember, the Lighting of the Flame of Hope and the laying of a wreath at the Monument for the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi at the EAC Headquarters.
The commemoration will bring together leaders and staff from EAC Organs and Institutions, Arusha Region authorities, regional and international organisations based in Arusha, students, and representatives from various religious denominations.
The event is expected to be graced by the Arusha Regional Commissioner, the EAC Secretary General and other dignitaries.
Together, let us remember, reflect, and reaffirm our commitment to preventing such atrocities in the future.
