Thank you sir for raising all the valid questions.. much appreciated and respected..
Executing two people over a simple act without giving the world a clear explanation of what exactly happened, is deeply disturbing.
Saudi Arabia is not the torchbearer of Islam, nor does it have the authority to define the faith for the rest of the world..
The way it uses religion to justify cruelty is disturbing.. honestly, it has turned out to be one of the biggest evils in the name of religion..
Two coffins. A husband and wife. Two lives extinguished. And a Saudi monarchy that must answer for its actions.
Look at those coffins being carried in the circulating video.
A coffin is not merely a wooden box. It represents a human life that has ended, a family left grieving and a future that will never be lived.
The footage has circulated in connection with the executions of a Bangladeshi couple, although the identification of those particular coffins as their remains has been disputed.
The tragedy of the executions themselves demands our attention.
On 14 October 2026, Saudi Arabia reportedly executed Nazrul Islam Abdul Basir and Siti Akhtar in the Makkah region following convictions involving alleged immoral conduct inside a mosque.
At the centre of this deeply disturbing case is the claim that the husband had simply kissed his wife’s forehead.
A forehead kiss. An expression of affection between two people who had begun their married life together.
If that was the act for which they were condemned, what possible moral reasoning could justify taking their lives?
The precise conduct underlying their convictions has not been publicly established. The Saudi government must explain what happened instead of expecting the world to accept an irreversible punishment without sufficient information.
Saudi Arabia’s rulers cannot hide behind royal decrees, religious terminology and judicial formalities while expecting the rest of humanity to remain silent.
A royal order is not proof of justice.
A religious interpretation is not automatically a moral truth.
And a death sentence does not become humane simply because a court has authorised it.
If Saudi Arabia’s application of Islamic jurisprudence permits execution for conduct that does not warrant the loss of human life, then that application deserves the fiercest possible condemnation.
No sacred text, religious scholar, judicial institution or monarch should be exempt from moral scrutiny.
Why should an interpretation of religious doctrine possess greater authority than the fundamental dignity of a human being?
Why should the supposed protection of religious sanctity be invoked to defend punishment that may be grotesquely disproportionate?
And why should the world be expected to respect a government that has not provided a sufficiently transparent public explanation for taking two lives?
Saudi Arabia wants the international community to admire its transformation.
Its futuristic cities. Its luxury resorts. Its sporting spectacles. Its enormous investments. Its carefully cultivated image of modernity.
But what kind of modernity is this?
A country cannot claim moral progress through entertainment festivals and skyscrapers while refusing to confront serious questions about its criminal justice system.
You cannot purchase civilisation with oil wealth. You must demonstrate it through the way you treat human beings.
The Saudi monarchy has the resources to construct entire cities, yet the families affected by these executions still deserve a clear and credible account of what happened.
Bangladesh reportedly received no advance notification and subsequently sought clarification.
Were the accused adequately represented? Did they receive meaningful consular assistance? What evidence was presented? Why were death sentences considered proportionate?
These are elementary questions, not unreasonable demands.
And there is a larger issue that secularists, rationalists and human rights advocates must confront without hesitation.
Islamic law is not beyond criticism.
Neither is Hindu religious orthodoxy. Neither is Christian fundamentalism. Neither is any other system that attempts to convert religious doctrine into coercive state power.
Religious freedom protects the individual’s right to believe and worship. It does not grant governments an unlimited right to punish others in the name of those beliefs.
I will not blame ordinary Muslims for the actions of Saudi Arabia’s rulers. Millions of Muslims hold different interpretations of their faith and reject injustice.
But I will not soften criticism of coercive interpretations of Islamic law merely to avoid offending religious sensibilities.
Human rights are not negotiable. Not for a monarchy. Not for a religious establishment. Not for anyone.
If the forehead-kiss account is substantiated, these executions would represent an especially appalling example of religious and judicial power being exercised against personal freedom.
Even without that allegation, the lack of a full public explanation demands scrutiny.
Two people who were described as husband and wife have lost their lives. Their relatives must now endure a grief that no royal decree can reverse.
Saudi Arabia must release the relevant facts, explain its judicial reasoning and account for the treatment of these foreign nationals.
And the international community must stop treating economic influence as a reason to avoid difficult questions about human rights.
A monarchy’s wealth cannot buy moral immunity.
A religious ruling cannot silence rational criticism.
And the authority to execute must never be confused with the authority to determine what is right.
No crown is above justice. No religious interpretation is beyond examination. And no human life should be treated as disposable.
