How I got a job making videos about Bam Margera, GTA 4, Sony PSP, Quiksilver and many more. This was around 2005.... I'd never gotten paid to make a video before, but I loved all the stuff MTV was doing at the time and decided I wanted to do something like that. So I took the advice of my friend @chasejarvis : Create the work you want to be hired for. I made a music video for a friend, some short skate clips, a few animations, put them all on a DVD, and sent one to any magazine, brand, label, etc I could think of. Out of ~100 mailed out, I got no reply from 98 of them. But I *did* hear back from 2 people: One was Chris from Bridge 9, who created the "Yankees Suck" shirts you might remember from back then - I ended up doing a Flash game for him. The other was the publisher of Flo Multizine. I guess he liked my DVD, because he said yes, and I spent the next 2 years making videos for Flo (and persuaded Justin Thomas Kay to do the print piece, who was and is a much better designer than me). Point being, it really doesn't matter how many people ghost you or say no. You only need a couple people to say yes to change your life forever. Just gotta keep putting yourself out there!
