I am delighted to share a key focus of the Brookheart Lab -- Keeping people physically strong as they age.
We are grateful for the opportunity and support from the Longer Life Foundation to share our vision and passion on this topic. @LongerLifeOrg

We worked hard to get polling stations on both @WUSTL campuses. @WashUdbbs and others who want to vote in STL city (students, faculty, staff, patients) please use the NEW polling station in McDonnell Building.
Tomorrow is #ElectionDay!
The WashU Athletic Complex will welcome students, faculty, staff, and neighbors registered to vote in St. Louis County. For the first time, @washumedicine will also host a polling place for St. Louis City registered voters. bit.ly/3UCY4Qe
On the 2 year anniversary of starting my lab, I am excited to share our paper in @CellReports on the role of site-1 protease in muscle metabolism and size. Grateful for our collaborators @bnfinck @terri_pietka and @lab_meyer !

Final program for the Advances in Skeletal Muscle Biology in Health & Disease Conference (Mar 15-17, 2023) is posted. Abstract deadline is Feb 8. Registration deadline is Feb 26. Hope to see you there! myology.institute.ufl.edu/wo…
Thanks Matt! I had a great time meeting everyone and talking science. 🤩
Great to have Dr. Rita Brookheart from WashU presenting to the @UIowa_MolMed program on her interesting work on S1P and skeletal muscle metabolism.
Congratulations, Erin! Looking forward to reading this. 🐭🍫

Thank you, Julio! It was great to meet everyone in the department and learn about the interesting work at Vanderbilt.
Fantastic seminar by Dr. Rita Brookheart from @WUSTLmed as part of @VUBasicSciences Emerging Scholars Lecture series. Interesting bedside-to-bench story on S1P effects on muscle function and mass that started with a rare patient phenotype.
Looking forward to my visit!
Please join us tomorrow for @VUBasicSciences Emerging Scholar presenter @CellNinja, Assistant Professor, Washington University School of Medicine: “New Molecular Players Linking Muscle Metabolism and Growth”

Based on an earlier observation made in a patient with an S1P mutation, this mechanistic work is starting to unravel some interesting roles for this protease in muscle metabolism. Glad to see this come to fruition and more interesting findings on the way!! – at O'Fallon, IL
The first preprint from the Brookheart Lab identifies Site-1 Protease, a regulator of ATF6 and SREBPs, as an inhibitor of skeletal muscle metabolism and mass.
Many thanks to our collaborators! @bnfinck @terri_pietka @lab_meyer

Here's the latest from our lab. Truly a team effort involving three co-first authors @YiewNicole @MitoManny @Martino1440 who all sequentially made important contributions to this work.
