This is a very important question; it is not only a Nigerian problem. I see it in other African countries, and these are my thoughts: 1. I think first, it is security. People fear links and the hijacking of their devices, and a website is a link. 2. Social media also provides a lot of "community safety" as they can see comments from those who have interacted with the seller before in real time. It is also where the market is active, and you can be more visible. 3. Mobile distribution is much more efficient when it comes to customer service. A cousin runs most of his online sales and customer service requests via Instagram and WhatsApp. Someone hacked his Instagram last week, and he almost went mental. I found out he does hundreds of millions in sales via Instagram alone. It is fascinating. People simply prefer to contact the seller via WhatsApp as it is cheaper and faster. Many sales inquiries also come through WhatsApp.
