From our Q&A with C.H Greenblatt today: Q: in the current age of people saying the animation industry is in its darkest period in years right now, what’s the best advice you can give to graduating students and fresh new gen z faces looking to break into the industry or have no animation experience before like me? A: (posts gif) Seriously tho, it's tough times. I'd say look for different paths beyond the studio shows: games, indie stuff, etc. Learning is harder because you don't have access to the institutional knowledge of working with old farts like me. Look for internships. I've hired people because I saw work they did online, like comics or shorts that showed me their style and thinking. Making stuff on your own has a benefit: it lets you work the kinks out. Doing so many comics let me realize that none of it was precious. There was always a new one to make if the last one was mid. Having a strong portfolio is important. Focus it on what you want and showcase a few pieces that are really good, rather than a TON of things. Like if it's boarding, show me a few good scenes from a couple different things, rather than a 300 page board. Or if it's character design, have some really solid designs in a couple different themes. But yeah, it's a terrible time for traditional jobs
