They want more cops, but they don't want to pay for them.
The city is $175 million in the hole, largely due to police raises and lawsuits, and these richer-than-God Chamber types have fought progressive taxes at every turn.

Kshama could:
* Meaningfully engage in movements instead of using them as platforms for self-promotion
* Build relationships instead of waging factional struggles against everyone
* Create an organizing model not dependent working college volunteers until they burn out.
I think the Actual Left needs to get a full debrief and analysis of what went wrong (especially on the ground) with @cmkshama’s campaign. The goal is to learn for next time, and to stop any attempt to bury the strategy of independent socialist candidates and parties. @briebriejoy

For 3 yrs my landlord would install and uninstall the window AC units for no charge then he handed the property to a management company and, in addition to increasing my rent 20%, they now charge $300 to install and $300 to uninstall AC units every year. Everything’s a gougefest
For millions of Americans who can’t afford to buy, renting isn’t a choice.
A @guardian investigation shows how private equity-backed corporate landlords exploit them, one invented fee at a time. Just look at what Greystar charges:
• a penalty for “breaking the lease” by dying (charged to one grieving family)
• DNA testing of your dog’s poop
• $26.75/mo “boiler management fee”
• $95/mo “lifestyle fee” (for a spin room and picnic tables)
• $25/mo “valet trash,” a service that costs the landlord $8
• “final bill fee,” charged just to stop being their tenant
• a fee to pay your rent online
• “variable refrigerant flow fee”
• “solar rebill fee”
• “stormwater/drainage admin fee”

1. What did Katie materially do to make tax base flee
2. Is tax base fleeing? How much?
3. How is that connected to these crimes?
4. Are these crimes actually going up since whatever inciting Wilson incident?
“...the rape, the assault, the murder. This is Katie’s Seattle, and it’s only going to get worse. As the tax base flees Seattle, public safety resources will dry up, and then people will be really unsafe.”

“Mayor Katie shouldn’t be proud of raising taxes while Seattle’s business outlook continues to weaken. Public safety depends on stable resources, and those resources come from a strong, diverse tax base. Seattle should be attracting businesses, not driving them away. A safer, stronger city starts with an economy that allows everyone to flourish.”

every business owner that does not pay their workers enough to live in their city is a drain on taxpayers who then have to subsidize the workers housing and basic needs

Drivers in Seattle gotta come to understand driving a car in Seattle will literally never be less of a pain than it is right now. It will only get worse for the rest of your time in this city and on Earth.
The ability to move throughout the city will improve. But not in a car.
OPINION: The mayor of Seattle, making transportation policy for a corridor carrying 30,000 vehicles a day, has never once sat behind the wheel as the person responsible for getting somewhere on time in traffic.

Seattle rejecting a BART style heavy rail system not once, but multiple times has got to be one of the greatest transit what-ifs.

the Boots Riley discourse isn't going far enough imo. if you're actually a leftist, you shouldn't even be *watching* movies and television. the only way to actually be a Marxist is to live in a big tank like a guild navigator in Dune so that you can spend 24 hours a day tweeting

This is tough medicine for anyone to take, but owning up to his past mistakes like this will only make his endorsement of JD for president in a couple of years all the more credible!

In the past, officers facing similar allegations—Marcus Martin and Marie Gochnour—were fired.
