One month ago, more than 36,000 Iranians were killed in just two days. I repeat: One month ago, more than 36,000 Iranians were killed in two days. That is amongst the fastest mass killings in recorded history. And yet, the world was silent. No global meltdown. No viral outrage. No oceans of protesters in New York or London. No trendy keffiyehs. Iran did not trend at all. Not like Gaza, anyway. And the Islamic regime took advantage of this, cut off the internet and electricity so it could continue slaughtering Iranians. And the world remained in darkness. So why is it that when Gazans die, the world erupted, but when Iranians are massacred, the world shrugged? Here’s the uncomfortable truth. Free Iranians don’t fit the Western moral script. They are secular. They are want to reform Islam. They are led by women and their most screligious crime is that they reject the idea that Islam is beyond criticism, therefore disrupting the leftist status quo and oppression Olympics rules. In the dominant Western imagination, Muslims are eternal victims. Never oppressors. Only white people and white Jews are oppressors. That story is digestible, emotionally simple, and politically convenient. So when the U.S or the West holds a bazooka: Outrage! But when a regime led brown Imams slaughter 36,000+ people in two days, suddenly it’s “complex.” Because supporting Iranians means admitting that radical Islam is a problem.
