What becomes possible when we become still—together? Next Saturday, 22 August, I will have the pleasure of joining friends and colleagues from across the greater Boston meditation community for Mass Meditation: For a Meditative Future, an outdoor gathering on the Boston Common. The gathering brings together the Cambridge Zen Center, The Conscious Future Society, Millions Meditating Alliance, Cambridge TM Center, and others around a wonderfully simple proposition: people from different traditions and backgrounds can gather in one place, practise their respective meditation techniques, and share an hour of collective silence and peace. There is something particularly meaningful to me about this kind of collaboration. Our traditions need not be identical for us to recognise what we hold in common—or to work together in service of something larger than ourselves. The event is free and open to everyone.
