If you love them, don't leave them! As temperatures climb, so do the calls for dogs in distress left in vehicles. The temperature inside a vehicle can rise to dangerous levels in as little as a few minutes. A partially open window does not effectively lower a vehicle’s interior temperature, nor does the availability of water. 🛑 Never leave an animal unattended inside a vehicle on a warm or hot day, even for a short time.   ☎️ If you see an animal alone in a vehicle on a warm or hot day, call 911 immediately. Be prepared to provide your location & the vehicle’s licence plate number, make & model & a brief description.   🗣️ You can also report an animal left inside a hot vehicle to the Calgary Humane Society by calling 403-205-4455.

🔵 CHARGES LAID 🔵 We have charged a man following an investigation into multiple incidents of animal abuse this year. 📍 On Saturday, July 12, 2025, at approximately 6:25 a.m., Calgary Transit peace officers observed a man on CCTV at the Marlborough CTrain station striking & kicking his dog. He left before officers could locate him. The incident was reported to the Calgary Humane Society, but the man could not be identified at the time. On Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2025, at about 3:35 p.m., the same man was seen on CCTV at the City Hall CTrain station, striking his dog several times. Calgary Transit peace officers detained him & seized the dog, which was placed in the care of the Calgary Humane Society. The man was given conditions to regain ownership but failed to meet them, & the dog was forfeited. On Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2025, at about 5:20 p.m., the man entered the Calgary Humane Society property & stole the dog from a volunteer dog walker. Peace officers detained him until we arrived. He was arrested, charged with theft under $5,000, & ordered to stay away from the property. Despite this order, the man returned on Monday, Dec. 22 & again on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2025, when he was arrested. 📌 As a result of the joint Calgary Police Service & Calgary Humane Society investigation, Joshua James MULLIGAN, 41, has been charged with: 🔷 Two counts of causing injury to an animal 🔷 Two counts of an owner willfully causing pain & suffering to an animal 🔷 Two counts of breach of a release order 🔷 One count of possession of methamphetamine He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026.
