After a rough debut, the Sacramento rookie exploded for 33 points against Portland in only his second NBA game.
What matters isn’t simply that he scored 33. It’s how familiar the role looked.
At Arkansas last season, Acuff ranked in the 99th percentile in scoring and PIR, 98th in assists, 97th in usage and 94th in AST% among qualifying NCAA guards.
In other words: he was already used to carrying possessions, creating his own offense and creating for others.
The NBA efficiency is obviously going to take time. Against Portland he shot 10/26 overall and 2/10 from three, but he also got to the line 12 times and made 11, kept attacking after a difficult start and nearly helped Sacramento erase a double-digit deficit late.
That’s the part of college production you want to see translate: the ability to generate offense against better athletes without becoming passive.
Two NBA games is nothing.
But going from 12 points in Game 1 to 33 in Game 2 is one hell of a response.

Mike Tomlin coached the Steelers for 19 straight seasons without a single losing record. The whole time, he was quietly building a Minecraft city that almost nobody outside his house had ever seen.
He started it around 2014, when his kids were young. His reasoning was simple. "How do I meet them where they are and spend time with them?" So the most stoic man on an NFL sideline learned to place blocks.
Then the kids grew up. The city didn't stop.
Think about the schedule math here. He held the hardest job in football longer than any active coach, won a Super Bowl at 36, went 193-114-2, and still kept coming back to the same save file for 12 years. One world. One city. Through four Steelers quarterback eras.
The part that gets me is who pushed him to finally reveal it. His oldest son, the kid he originally picked up the game for, is the one telling him "Dad, you gotta share this with the world."
He built the city to get into his kids' world. Twelve years later, his kids are the ones bringing it into ours.
