“It worked, boom” - Nigel Farage Very problematic for Reform UK… worth watching in full @Channel4News
Our yearlong investigation reveals Nigel Farage courting illicit funding as part of a plot to bring foreign money into British politics, orchestrated by his top aides and caught on hidden camera.

One of the most thoughtful, intelligent and balanced articles that I have ever read on illegal migration and the small boats crisis. Kudos to @matthewsyed for this: “Your first duty is to serve your own citizens. Not people from Eritrea, Somalia, Afghanistan or Nigeria. The British people. Oh, and the nation you serve is not just a territory. It is a home. Our home. It is where we live and work, and where ritual, community, family, and other concepts we might assemble under the rubric of "culture" come together to weave the fabric of a life. Our life. The only life we have and which unfolds in concord with those with whom we share it. Without borders, we are not a nation, and without a nation, we are nothing. We are but tribes or clans, scattered here and there, pipsqueak groups unable to operate at scale or to defend what is precious. To open our borders in the name of "compassion" to people, some of whom hate our values and wish to destroy them, is to place your virtue above our safety. It is a form of self-annihilating madness dressed up as enlightenment. Only the myopic will infer from the above that I am in favour of slamming the doors to those in need.” Here’s the full article in The Sunday Times.

🟥 Hughes Has Lost the Plot - He Should Be On Gardening Leave Richard Hughes has reached desperation stakes. I’ve got no issue with Yankuba Minteh as a player. He’s talented, quick, direct and, as a squad option, there is plenty to like. But nine goals and eight assists in 66 Premier League appearances is hardly a record that should have Liverpool losing their heads. And now he’s injured. Surgery, another eight weeks out, Liverpool apparently bidding £50m anyway. What on earth are we doing? If Minteh was genuinely the man, why was this not dealt with in June? Why wait all summer? Why wait until the lad is unavailable? Why make an offer Brighton were always likely to reject? I would love to believe this is some clever attempt to flush PSG out over Bradley Barcola or Ibrahim Mbaye. I really would. I simply do not have enough faith in Hughes to believe there is that level of cunning behind it. This reeks of a plan collapsing and somebody scrambling for the next name on the list. Hughes should be on gardening leave, waiting for his first Saudi pay cheque, nowhere near decisions that could shape Liverpool for years. FSG allowing an outgoing sporting director to preside over a window this important is gross negligence. And perhaps one day, amid all the breathless updates about bids, shortlists and “interest”, a few more people with the loudest platforms might ask who is actually responsible for this mess. Liverpool have the money. They have a new manager who needs backing. They have known their weaknesses for months. There are no excuses left.

Axe Net Zero. Official figures say UK taxpayers are forking out £30 billion every single year until 2050 on net zero. That’s not a policy. That’s a money printer for corporations who’ve discovered a lucrative business model: get paid by the government to save the planet while the planet carries on exactly as it was going to. Thirty billion a year. Enough to build the reservoirs we actually need, flood defences that work, clean the streets so they no longer look like a landfill on a pavement, fill in potholes from Land’s End to John o’Groats until the roads are smoother than a politician’s empty promise. And plant more trees in our towns and cities - which will help to lower temperatures, reduce flooding, reduce pollution, beautify our high streets and provide the most natural and long lasting form of carbon capture. Instead we’re funding the world’s most expensive virtue signal. The temperature won’t notice. The net zero linked corporations will. Their nests have never been so luxuriously feathered by the taxpayer. Stop the net zero gravy train. Spend the money on real infrastructures to improve people’s daily lives rather than spaffing away our public money on corporate virtue cosplay.

Last week I reported here that President Trump was telling senior White House aides his priority now was to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, not make it impossible for Iran ever to build a Bomb. Since the Strait was open before he launched his attacks on Iran it does make you wonder what the point of his war was in the first place. Anyway, putting that aside, VP JD Vance has now effectively said the new unspoken priority out loud: the main aim in the Iran war now is keeping US oil and gas prices low — ie opening the Strait — with stymying Iran’s nuclear ambitions second. So there you have it. What a shambles. And all for nothing.

Britain is covered in rivers, lakes, surrounded by water and receives an average annual rainfall of about 46 inches with 159 days wet weather per year. Saudi Arabia and UAE are surrounded by desert and receives an average annual rainfall of 4 inches with 10 days wet weather per year. Britain gets threatened with hosepipe bans in summer. The last reservoir to be built in Britain was in 1992. 35 reservoirs have been sold off and dozens more bulk water storage sites - following privatisation of water in 1989. UAE & Saudi Arabia continue to water everything due to their huge desalination plants.

I still don’t think many people have clocked how massive this story actually is. Thames Water is carrying £19.8bn of debt, up 2 billion in a single year, and it will run out of money before Christmas. £19.8bn against 16 million people who cannot switch, can’t leave, and cannot stop drinking water. That’s about £1,240 per head. 5 grand for a family of four. In some way, shape, or form, they’re on the hook for it. That’s the part that I don’t think has landed yet. This isn’t a story about sewage in the Thames, or bonuses, or another regulator caught asleep. The actual event is 30 years of a monopoly being used as collateral by people who knew its customers could never walk away. The bill has now come due… and it’s a big one. The pipes and the infrastructure were never the real asset. The 16 million captive water drinkers were. What’s going to really sting is the fact there’s only two ways this gets settled. Your bill goes up, substantially, or your taxes do. Most likely both, and it’ll be on a schedule designed in a way so you don’t notice the hit, in an attempt to suppress the rage you should rightly be feeling. And before anyone tells me the creditors are taking a 30% haircut, look at what they’ve asked for in return. Fines waived until 2030. Pollution targets “significantly modified.” Bills raised above what the regulator allows. That isn’t exactly them eating the loss now, is it. That’s them buying a regulatory holiday, on debt most of them bought at distressed prices. Nobody voted for this, nobody borrowed it, and nobody saw the benefit of it. The debt was loaded onto a captive customer base over 30 years and paid out to shareholders who have long since gone. 16 million people are about to find out that they co-signed something they were completely unaware of. Now, this is what should worry us all. Thames isn’t a rogue outlier, it’s just the first one to fully hit the wall. English water carries north of £60bn of debt. Southern is already junk rated, needed a £1.2bn rescue from its shareholders, and its customers are looking at a 48% bill rise this decade before you count what the CMA added on top. Every one of these companies borrowed heavily when money was free and now have to refinance it all in a world where it isn’t, while being told to spend billions on infrastructure they left rotting for 30 years. Thames is just the first and most visible of what will likely end up being a line of dominoes. Maybe Burnham nationalises Thames Water. But ask yourself… how many more will need to be nationalised? And who do you think pays for that?
BREAKING: Thames Water is due to run out of money by the end of the year, as it remains in discussions with creditors, regulators and government to recapitalise the business. Its annual results revealed it's £18.5bn in debt

Sam Neill (2025): “It’s not a happy place, America, and I wasn’t happy there. I’m interested in the condition of America now. It beggars belief what’s happening there now. When you hear a slogan like Make America Great Again, it makes a sort of weird sense because America could be great again, but at community level. Not with sort of strange billionaires making weird decisions”

Nick Robinson to Zia Yusuf: "You say this is all about standing up to the establishment. "You're a multi-millionaire. You made your money selling luxury helicopter charters and rare wines to the super-wealthy. "Nigel Farage is a public schoolboy, a former commodities trader who gets £5m gifts from his friends and lives in a 5-storey house next to Buckingham Palace courtesy of a man convicted of fraud. This was no hard luck story and the statistics are grim - 18 defeats, 2pts out of 24 away to teams in the top half, & losing home/away to both Manchester clubs for the first time since 1912-13. A bad day for Slot as the same old issues blight Liverpool. nytimes.com/athletic/7250325…

Last night, MPs had a unique opportunity to force a forensic investigation on Starmer for his Mandelson sleaze. To expose him. I voted to drag him through it. 223 MPs did. That included Labour MPs who put their careers at risk to do the right thing. Farage failed to vote with us - he didn't bother to show up. We had a chance to finally drag the truth into the light, put him under brutal scrutiny, and let the British people see exactly how this corrupt system protects its own. Why get yourself elected to Parliament if, when a real moment of genuine consequence arrives, you are nowhere to be seen? Parliament isn't loads of fun, to be honest. I'd rather be doing other things. I would prefer to be in Great Yarmouth campaigning. But this is the job. It is what we are paid to do. It is our duty as MPs. And it is a duty that matters, especially on a vote as fundamental as this one. The absence of those who should have been there in our Parliament to hold this rotten Prime Minister to account speaks louder than any speech they could ever make.

No serious nation in the history of warfare has spent fourteen months insulting its allies, siding with their common enemy, and then knocked on their door expecting them to rescue a catastrophe of its own making. You abused the UK. Threatened Canada. Tried to grab Greenland. Called the EU an adversary. Praised Putin. Hosted Kremlin officials in the Capitol. Abandoned Ukraine. And did all of it loudly, proudly, and on camera. And now you are surprised that nobody is returning your calls. You want European boots on the ground? Start by explaining why America is more aligned with Moscow than with Brussels. Take your time. We will wait. Gandalv / @Microinteracti1
The Europeans are not dealing with “a man.” They are dealing with the United States of America. The United States needed the most innocuous kind of cooperation from them. They denied the United States that cooperation. The implied argument is that their obligations within our alliance depend on whether they like the guy we chose as our president. “Sure, we’re allies…if we approve of who you elected.” Nope. We are not going to forget, and we’re not going to forgive. I’m indifferent to their excuses or their rationalizations. The United States of America needed their help and not very much help. They turned us down. That changes everything. And they aren’t going to like how it changes everything.
