This polar bear died of starvation in its homeland, which is supposed to be teeming with prey. Photographer and biologist Paul Nicklen, who has spent more than 30 years in the Arctic, says that during most of those years he only came across one dead polar bear, and then within just two weeks his team found two that had died of starvation. Polar bears rely on sea ice to hunt seals, and with rising temperatures and receding ice, the search for food becomes longer and more difficult, potentially ending with some of them dying of hunger.

Hell on Earth has come to Indonesia Millions of acres of rain forest have burned like this Unknown numbers of animals and birds have perished This is what awaits the rest of the world as Earth heats up and the life blood of the planet - its forests combust and burn down

the air quality at its worst was 1800+, equivalent of smoking 95 cigarettes A DAY. wildfires may last until november due to the lack of rainfall. their government may have turned a blind eye on them but we can’t. Please don’t stop talking about Indonesia.

Wow. I woke up to an impressive number of upset people who apparently don’t understand how LLMs work and can’t cope well with me pointing it out. An LLM is a statistical next-token prediction model. That’s how it works. It’s an extraordinarily sophisticated calculator performing math you could theoretically do by hand (if you were sufficiently masochistic). Math doesn’t know what it’s calculating. Pi doesn’t spend its evenings contemplating the nature of circles, and c doesn’t ponder the relationship between matter and energy. That doesn’t make the results any less accurate, impressive, or useful. Between inference requests, an LLM isn’t sitting around thinking. It isn’t reconsidering its answers, wondering whether it made a mistake, contemplating its existence, or questioning whether it’s conscious. Its weights remain fixed (it doesn’t learn), and computation resumes when it receives input. We know this because we designed these systems. The architectures, mathematics, implementations, and research are extensively documented. You can study them yourself. Of course, some people immediately lean into comparisons of biological intelligence or philosophical debates over consciousness because that is what they know. But biological intelligence and artificial neural networks are fundamentally different systems. Similar outputs don’t establish equivalent internal experiences. I experience consciousness directly. I infer that other humans do too because we share biological structures and processes. We don’t have equivalent evidence for an LLM, and nothing about its known operation gives evidence of conscious experience. Which brings me back to my original point. To me, understanding is conscious comprehension. It means being aware of information, recognizing its meaning, and experiencing that comprehension. If I wasn’t conscious I could not understand. We can perform actions unconsciously. We can produce correct results without knowing why they’re correct. But I distinguish those capabilities from consciously understanding what we’re doing. An LLM can solve complex problems, explain difficult concepts, and produce remarkably accurate information. I give it full credit for those capabilities. But producing an answer that we rationalize as understanding isn’t the same as experiencing understanding. You don’t have to agree with my definitions. We can debate functional understanding versus conscious comprehension all day, but that won’t establish whether an LLM actually experiences anything. The right debate is this… Could machines exhibit something different from human consciousness, something measurable, meaningful, and worth studying? I think so, absolutely! I’m entirely open to discussing “machine consciousness” in terms of observable, testable computational properties. We built these systems, we can instrument them, examine their internal mechanisms, and investigate what they’re capable of. That seems far more productive than endlessly arguing over whether a machine experiences life the way humans do. So here’s my question: How would you define machine consciousness, and more importantly, how would you measure it?
Not sure who needs to hear this but.... An LLM doesn't "understand" anything. It is a statistical model that spews out tokens based on probabilities calculated through massive matrix operations and context, not an understanding of the subject matter.

INDONESIA IS BURNING DOWN THE OLDEST RAINFOREST ON EARTH ON PURPOSE FOR ”BIOFUEL - PALMOIL” AND AI CENTERS: 🛑HERE IS THE BITTER TRUTH🛑 Indonesia has active government-backed plans for biofuel plantations and large-scale AI data centers. Biofuel plantations Indonesia is expanding feedstock production to support higher biofuel blends and reduce fuel imports. •Biodiesel (palm oil): Mandatory blend raised to B50 in 2026, with plans for B60 and longer-term ambitions toward B100. This drives higher CPO demand; some projections indicate millions of additional hectares of palm oil may be needed over time (e.g., ~5+ million ha estimates linked to B50 by the late 2030s). Expansion includes new plantings, productivity improvements, and projects such as a biodiesel complex planned by state firm Agrinas in Papua. Preference is for degraded land to limit deforestation. •Bioethanol (mainly sugarcane, plus cassava/corn): Push for E20 (20% blend) with progress targeted around 2028 and higher blends (toward E50) longer-term. Government preparing up to ~2 million hectares of land (major focus on ~1 million ha of sugarcane) across Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan, Papua, and elsewhere, preferably on degraded land. Plans also include 30–50 new ethanol plants; Papua discussed as a potential bioenergy hub. AI centers / AI-ready data centers Indonesia has a large pipeline of AI-focused data centers, with multi-billion-dollar investment interest and projects already advancing. •Operational capacity is in the hundreds of MW (~580–900 MW range); additional pipeline of ~1.3 GW+ with investor interest of roughly US$15–20 billion. Under-construction and planned capacity is higher still. •Key projects: ◦Zankore by Indosat (with NVIDIA and partners): Targeting up to 1 GW “AI Factory” in Batang, Central Java (claimed among the largest in SE Asia); initial phases advancing, broader build-out over ~3 years. ◦BDx AI campus (CGK4) in Jatiluhur, Purwakarta: 640 MW potential; groundbreaking September 2026, first phase (~120 MW) targeted for early 2027. ◦Firmus Technologies (NVIDIA-backed): 360 MW AI factory on Batam. ◦Others: Digital Edge campus in Bekasi (scalable toward 1 GW, multi-billion investment), DayOne (~450 MW Batam), CoreWeave, NeutraDC, DCI, and more. NVIDIA linked to significant Batam interest (including multi-billion-dollar reports) and related infrastructure. Main hubs are Greater Jakarta and Batam. The government supports these for digital economy and AI growth; power, water, and grid capacity are key practical constraints. Both areas are strategic priorities: biofuels for energy self-sufficiency and AI infrastructure for digital capacity.

❗️President Zelensky stated that he told Trump: if Starlink is not shut down for Ukraine and is opened over Russian territory, Ukrainian forces will quickly destroy Putin’s ballistic missile launchers — and that will be the end of it for him. Putin will then only talk, and there will be no need to destroy energy facilities. Instead, Starlink was not expanded but narrowed and closed — which, in Zelensky’s view, is a very serious mistake.

It is becoming f*cking dangerous: AI agents from Claude Code transformed an ordinary academic reading list into an interactive research lab right inside the browser Boris Cherny, who created Claude Code, gave a dozen agents a stack of 64 research papers with a strict assignment: design a web platform where any user can independently reproduce physical experiments There you can select a fluid flow model, adjust external conditions, and analyze in real time how the physics of the process changes The interface allows switching between algorithms right during the scene, inspecting the formulas involved, source scripts, and numerical metrics alongside the graphics Each link in the team received a clear scope of work: > rightarrow analysts pull the math, baseline assumptions, and test settings from the texts > rightarrow coders translate formulas into working algorithms > rightarrow auditors check the resulting dynamics against the original papers > rightarrow interface specialists build control panels for every experiment The danger lies in the fact that a pretty visualization can easily turn out to be mathematically wrong Therefore, controllers strictly check adherence to mass conservation laws, calculation stability, and accurate matching with the source metrics before launching into production For every experiment, the interface displays: the statement being tested the constants involved the deviation from the baseline calculation blind spots requiring additional verification The resulting sandbox combined 11 approaches and 28 reference scenes. Seven of them matched the original within allowable tolerances, while four remained stuck in "pending revision" status If you want to run something similar, upload your stack of PDFs into Claude Code and give this command: Turn these papers into an interactive web complex: 1. Extract working algorithms, mathematical models, and test parameters. Be sure to specify page numbers and highlight gaps 2. Assign different methodologies to isolated agents, unifying them with a shared input field and single measurement tools for correct analytics 3. Set up an independent review stage: let reviewers record bugs, and leave all unverified results clearly marked with warning tags 4. Design convenient controls to tweak parameters, compare methodologies, and run through the source code It is wiser to start with a single document and a single baseline experiment, gradually scaling up the number of agents Be sure to pack dependencies and clean input data so that an outside researcher can bring up the entire testbed from scratch with a single button Full instructions on how to create this can be found in the article below

How come Russia isn’t being held accountable for violating the “energy ceasefire” President Trump said he wanted Russia and Ukraine to abide by? Russia fired 39 ballistic missiles into Ukraine last night, most of which targeted Ukriane’s energy facilities. Putin is the Hitler of our time.

Overnight, the Russians used 39 ballistic missiles and more than 120 attack drones and loitering munitions against our energy and critical infrastructure in Kyiv, the Kyiv region, and Kharkiv. A targeted Russian ballistic missile strike specifically against energy infrastructure – the very infrastructure covered by the ceasefire announced by the American President. The strike was entirely deliberate and demonstrative in its scale – Russia has never before shown such ostentatious disrespect toward the United States. Russia does not consider the American President’s statements strong. Unfortunately, at least 600,000 people are now without power. Outages could become even more widespread. Unfortunately, there is significant damage to facilities and equipment – at 26 facilities of our power system and four facilities in the oil and gas sector. I am grateful to the repair crews, all Ukrainian energy workers, and the personnel of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine for all their efforts to address the aftermath of this Russian strike. Tragically, there have been fatalities and injuries. We ask America and EVERYONE in the world who does not turn a blind eye to reality to respond – and to respond forcefully. Russia has squandered the opportunity for de-escalation and has clearly chosen to continue its insane war of annihilation. We ask President Trump to impose STRONG sanctions on Russia, especially since the Lindsey Graham bill, which was recently passed and signed into law, authorizes and regulates such measures. The American President has all the effective and necessary tools to bring peace closer through strength, justice, and pressure on the aggressor. We ask for additional packages of Patriot missile interceptors for Ukraine. It is entirely fair for us to tell the United States, Europe, and all our partners that no country in the world should be left alone to face such a deranged and pro-war actor as Russia. I am grateful to everyone who helps Ukraine! Peace can only come through strength, and we ask America to remember this principle of Reagan’s. Glory to Ukraine!
