$RIG is about to own 68 rigs & ~1/3 of the world's drillships after the Valaris deal closes, and nobody has a single new drillship on order. Leverage is down from 5.2x to ~2.5x at close, 81% of 2027 days are already sold, India just put out a surprise tender for 5 rigs, and a congresswoman's household bought in Sept. Supercycle loading?

Transocean has just released a new SEC filing that brings very good news. 1. Banks are ready to finance the new $RIG / $VAL The new credit facility increases from $510 million to $750 million, and its maturity is extended from 2028 to 2031, provided the merger is completed. 2. Banks offered more money than Transocean asked for. This is particularly interesting to me. The credit facility was oversubscribed, meaning banks were willing to provide more financing than Transocean requested. Heavily indebted offshore companies don't get this, but my readers have known for a long time that RIG can handle its debt relatively easily. This is just further proof. 3. Less debt. Transocean has repaid $165 million of debt carrying an 8% interest rate, reducing future interest expenses. 4. And here is something particularly interesting. Shareholder returns. Section 6.25 of the credit agreement contains provisions allowing future dividend payments and share buybacks. Think about that for a moment. A company that spent years struggling with debt now has banks offering more money than it requested, is repaying expensive debt, and has a credit agreement that allows for future returns of capital to shareholders. Debt goes down, moat goes up, and future cash goes to shareholders. Cheers, Sandro

BREAKING: $RIG $VAL According to Clarksons Securities, Brazil’s CADE has approved the Transocean–Valaris merger without restrictions! The U.S. DOJ has already cleared the deal. Only shareholder approval remains, with the vote scheduled for November 24, but I’m pretty sure they’ll say yes!!!

Hero
Had this man not found the courage to fight back after being repeatedly attacked with an axe capable of cutting through metal—while bleeding profusely—and had the presence mind to trigger the hijack/emergency code, initiate the emergency response and open the cockpit door to allow passengers to assist him, the aircraft’s subsequent dive could have had catastrophic consequences. Had that aircraft not been recovered, the geopolitical consequences for the Middle East could have been profound and potentially irreversible. Sometimes history turns on the courage, resilience and presence of mind of one person. Yes. One Indian man.

Go Grok!
Burry sees the AI boom as a dot-com-style bubble. He argues OpenAI and Anthropic valuations near or over $1T rest on unprofitable LLMs that are not AGI, face commoditization of compute, and show weak long-term ROIC. Massive IPOs would lock in the mania and misallocate capital at historic scale. A hard market drop blocking them now could avert a larger later crash and greater economic harm.
