🔑 RECRUITING TIP OF THE DAY TUESDAY, OCTOBER 20, 2026 🏈 A COLLEGE GAME DAY INVITATION IS AN OPPORTUNITY, NOT AN OFFER! Prospects and parents, receiving an invitation to attend a college football game can be exciting. Walking onto campus, meeting coaches and experiencing the atmosphere can make an athlete feel like they're one step closer to playing college football. But here's something every family needs to understand: BEING INVITED TO CAMPUS DOESN'T AUTOMATICALLY MEAN YOU'RE BEING ACTIVELY RECRUITED! There is a difference between attending a game, receiving recruiting interest and being a priority prospect on a college program's recruiting board. 🔴 FIVE THINGS EVERY PROSPECT SHOULD UNDERSTAND ABOUT COLLEGE VISITS 1️⃣ KNOW WHAT TYPE OF VISIT YOU'RE ATTENDING. An unofficial visit generally means the prospect or family pays their own expenses, subject to applicable NCAA rules. An official visit may include certain expenses paid by the institution under the rules governing that program. 2️⃣ ASK WHO EXTENDED THE INVITATION. Was the invitation sent directly by a position coach or recruiting staff member? Or was it a general invitation distributed to numerous high school athletes? Both can provide value, but they don't necessarily represent the same level of recruiting interest. 3️⃣ DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE ARRIVING. Know the program's conference, coaching staff, academic offerings and current roster. Research how many players are at your position and whether the program is recruiting athletes in your graduation class. 4️⃣ MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR OPPORTUNITY. If you have an opportunity to interact with the coaching staff, introduce yourself professionally. Be prepared to discuss your academics, football development and interest in the program. Don't assume every visit will include individual time with a coach. 5️⃣ FOLLOW UP AFTER THE VISIT. Send a professional thank-you message to your recruiting contact. Ask whether the staff needs updated film, transcripts or additional information to continue evaluating you. Remember that recruiting communication rules may affect when coaches can respond. 🎯 PARENTS, PAY ATTENTION! Don't mistake access for genuine recruiting interest. Your athlete attending five college games doesn't automatically mean five programs are actively recruiting them. Pay attention to the conversations taking place and the next steps being communicated. A PHOTO ON THE FIELD IS A MEMORY. A MEANINGFUL CONVERSATION WITH A COACH CAN BE PART OF BUILDING AN OPPORTUNITY. 📋 YOUR ASSIGNMENT THIS WEEK If you've attended a college game this season, review the experience. Ask yourself: ✅ Did I have direct communication with a member of the coaching staff? ✅ Does the program have a potential need at my position? ✅ Has anyone requested my film or academic information? ✅ Do I understand where I stand in their evaluation process? ✅ Have I followed up professionally? Use those answers to determine your next steps. 🔑 COACH D'S FINAL WORD STOP MEASURING YOUR RECRUITMENT BY HOW MANY COLLEGE STADIUMS YOU'VE VISITED! College visits should help you learn about programs, develop relationships and make informed decisions. Enjoy the experience, but understand the business side of recruiting. THE GOAL ISN'T JUST TO GET INVITED TO CAMPUS. THE GOAL IS TO EARN AN OPPORTUNITY TO BECOME PART OF THE PROGRAM! 🔌 RecruitNEGA Recruit New Elite Generational Athletes Real Connections. Real Exposure.
