🇪🇺 Europe must step up at #COP31.
Today, ELSiA & partners call on EU leaders to:
✅ Phase out fossil fuels
✅ Deliver a just transition
✅ Increase climate finance
✅ Champion agroecology
Climate leadership means standing with the most vulnerable & protecting our common home. 🌍
Human dignity must remain at the heart of our digital future.
During his address at @UNESCO, Pope Leo XIV reflected on the challenges posed by artificial intelligence, calling for technology to remain at the service of people and for greater protection of children and young people in the digital age.
While artificial intelligence can process and correlate vast amounts of information, it cannot provide meaning or trust. In the words of @Pontifex , “Meaning is the oxygen of the mind.”
His message ultimately went beyond technology: trust, dialogue and education are essential to overcoming divisions, strengthening our common humanity and building lasting peace.

Minister @timmydooley reiterated that TAFF-2 will be a vital opportunity to advance enabling pathways to implement a progressive transition away from fossil fuels, creating sustainable societies for all.
Ireland is ready to lead by example and has committed to publish a Roadmap on Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels by the end of 2026.
🇮🇪 looks forward to partnering with 🇹🇻 as we move from discussion to implementation.

✍️El "diálogo" entre empresas mineras, Iglesias y comunidades suele presentarse como un camino prometedor. Sin embargo, un análisis revela que esta idea reposa sobre argumentos frágiles o desconectados de la realidad de los territorios.

As commercial deep-sea mining is increasingly being considered in parts of the Pacific, the Bishops of the region call for prudence, insisting that "the absence of complete scientific certainty should never become an excuse for proceeding without due care."

As foreign ministers gather for the #FAC together with @MartinKonecny we remind them the EU has to end trade with the illegal Israeli settlement to comply with international law and the EU's own treaty obligations.

What can the EU actually do about products from Israeli settlements? 🌍
An import ban is only one option. In this explainer, EUobserver breaks down every measure currently under consideration—from tariffs and customs enforcement to changes in trade agreements, explaining how each would work, who supports it, and how likely it is to happen.

🚨As EU Commission puts out options to restrict trade with Israeli settlements, we are today releasing our full proposal to ban such trade.
We show how the EU can concretely design & implement it – and why it's legally necessary.

The EU cannot claim to uphold international law while continuing trade with illegal settlements. We join +11 human rights groups in calling on the European Commission to propose regulation to stop trade with Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, in line with the International Court of Justice's 2024 advisory opinion and the EU’s legal obligations. Eindelijk.
