Hi everyone, I went on vacation, and the icon on this app changed while I was gone. I probably won't be hanging out here much anymore. Please feel free to connect with me on LI and follow my business FB account. It's really a shame - I had some great interactions here.

I consider indexing to be both information/knowledge work and a creative process, re-interpreting and restructuring a whole book. Automated indexes are still not very good. Any further thoughts, fellow indexers and @djbduncan?

So what does an #editor do when they finally have a free slot in their schedule? Why, finally change all the hyphens to en dashes in number ranges on their website, of course! Send help.

Aimee Wall's talk was excellent. So interesting to learn about the different ways that vernaculars are treated in literary #translation.

Day 1 of #Editors23 #EditorsIRL was a great success -- interesting sessions and good conversation with #editor colleagues. And look what I found in my swag bag: a tiny @ChicagoManual pin! I kind of love it.
Getting ready to head to @EditorCon tomorrow, here in my city Toronto! Who else will be there?

👇 What an apt visual. Remember: if you spot maybe 20 typos in a lengthy book, there might have been 50,000 editorial interventions already made. That's an amazing catch rate! And author review and #proofreading should always follow #copyediting.

#Academic/scholarly writers: Do you know about
#signposting in your writing? This is a good summary of what it is, how to use it properly, and why your #editor may be removing some of it. bit.ly/3MP8c3y

This is a good overview of the different kinds of #editors involved in a book project. I am happy to be part of the @ucpress process outlined here, as the #copyeditor for one of its journals. bit.ly/3WIHZIB

Yesterday I attended Toronto's Word on the Street festival, a celebration of the written word. Happy to see so many people out perusing print copies of #books and listening to #authors speak. Great to have access to some of the small #publishers.
It's always so nice to be acknowledged by my clients! This was a particularly interesting book on Czech literature and a particularly lovely author to work with.

Congratulations @berlihe on this well-deserved award! I had the pleasure of #indexing this excellent literary study involving Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan, and Latin texts.

It's funny what a difference a few years make.
Three years ago I wondered if I should consult a mentor at the Speed Mentoring session at @EditorCon. Three years later, I have now volunteered to serve as a mentor at this year's mentoring session. 1/
I look forward to meeting some new #editors at the conference and sharing what I've learned over the years! 2/

I have neglected to write a blog post for over a year, but I finally had time to house an updated post previously published by the CIEP blog on my own website, based on @MaliniDevadas's expert #business advice: how #editors can make more money. bit.ly/40JXf8l
I agree - I value being part of this #editing community. And I do currently copy edit, but I'm also happy to send referrals to other trusted #editors when I am booked up. It helps my clients, it helps our community, and sometimes referrals come my way too! #AcademicTwitter

I absolutely love the fact that I just had to style a source reference to the Queen Bey, Beyoncé.

Today I have a job transcribing #Latin text from a 17th c. painting and translating it. This is the type of work that I live for! My #paleography skills and humanities training are directly at work.
If you are a scholar who needs to make sense of Latin text 1/
in your medieval, Renaissance, or early modern project or #research, it would be my pleasure to help you with that.
