At CSIR-IMTECH’s BERPDC division, Dr. Anirban Roy Choudhury (Scientist G) and his team aim to apply their expertise of bioprocess engineering, microbial biotechnology, and biomaterial formulations to develop technological solutions that benefit industry and society. Their research focuses on the fermentative production of various industrially significant biomolecules, such as microbial polysaccharides, enzymes, pigments, etc. They are also pioneering in advanced biomaterial preparations using polysaccharides and developing nano-nutraceuticals from fruit-industry waste.
The key areas of research in his lab encompass:
◆ Industrial biotechnology: Advancing fermentation, process optimisation, and scale-up for commercially relevant biomolecules.
◆ Sustainability: Valorising industrial and fruit-processing waste into valuable bioproducts.
◆ Biomaterial innovation: Developing advanced polysaccharide-based materials, including hydrogel, nanogel, emulgel, etc., with multifarious applications.
◆ Health and nutrition: Nutraceutical formulations by enhancing the solubility and bioavailability of plant-derived polyphenols via green approaches.

Our 3rd annex campus at Bommaipalli in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri dist hosts the Super Rice program. A part of the 50 acres campus is for growing climate resilient varieties. Last week, rice grown here was distributed to 150 local farmers to grow & propagate the varieties themselves.

Viruses frequently destroy interferon (IFN)-signaling-cell's antiviral alarm system. Are there alternate mechanisms? New study from H Krishnan's lab shows there are.

New study from H Krishnan's lab finds that MAVS, known to coordinate IFN activation, also guards mitochondrial integrity. It allows the infected cell to mount an IFN-indpnt antiviral response that restricts RNA virus replication. journals.asm.org/doi/pdf/10.…

India has 9 species of kraits, and 6 of them are found in northeast India. But we use venom from only one of them to develop the polyvalent antivenom in India along representatives of cobras and vipers. The assumption is that venom all the krait species are similar enough.

Karthikeyan Vasudevan's recent work on 5 species of kraits in India shows that there is high variation between their venoms. This means areas like the northeast that have a lot higher snake diversity needs an antivenom that is equally potent.

Viral infections such as flu or COVID-19 are correlated with neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson's. @SwastiLab has found a protein that protects the infected cells from viruses, also can lead to amyloid deposits.

When we expect citizens to watch their antibiotics misuse, they first need to identify an antibiotic from other meds, understand how they work differently. Without that, @SomdattaKarak says that public won't intently participate in the #AMR conversation.

7000 people in a day at CCMB. It is amazing how this day enables so many organizations see a science research institute for the first time. It is a day for so many people actually speak to a biologist and understand the variety of possibilities that biology offers.

85th Foundation Day Celebrations of #CSIR:
The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is celebrating over eight decades of scientific excellence and innovation.
Established in 1942, CSIR today operates through a network of 37 national laboratories and has contributed significantly to the growth of various industrial sectors.
The notable innovations include the National Aroma Mission, Swaraj Tractor, indelible election ink, Saheli contraceptive pill, and indigenous Paracetamol technology, among others.
It has also pioneered sustainable solutions such as bio-jet fuel and steel slag roads.
In recent times, some of the notable achievements include the HANSA-NG aircraft, sickle cell anaemia test kit, hydrogen fuel-cell catamaran, and RO Bus.
To mark its remarkable journey and this special milestone, launched the Special CSIR@85 Postal Stamp, the Tech Connect Special Issue, CSIR Technology Compendium, Industry Connect Special Short Film, and the special mascot named CIRA.
