Before the final game of the 2026 season, our seniors presented their jerseys to staff members who have made a impactful moment during their time in high school. Thank you to these individuals and all of our staff for everything you do to make a lasting impression!
Being together as a team to share a meal is a special weekly event. This week we went to Messiah Lutheran Church for our meal. Senior Hunter Boehmer will join yearly senior captains Tyler Heitz, Davin Wilson, and Patrick Bruening. Coach Schmalen shared his “word of the week”.
The Comets embraced the heat and scored just enough to come out on top! Thank you to all who came out to the game, especially the @NationalGuard for supplying the camo uniforms and game atmosphere!
Game day! Tonight marks the highly anticipated home 🏈 opener. The Comets will wear special Iowa Nat’l Guard camo jerseys as a tribute to our military personnel. Our players are both honored and thrilled! A Howitzer cannon will be fired during the intro and each Comet TD!
Team dinner was with The Bridge Church! They are excellent hosts, big Comet supporters, and they enjoy connecting with our youth. Junior Brennan Ruzicka will join yearly senior captains Tyler Heitz, Davin Wilson, and Patrick Bruening. Coach Rekward shared his “word of the week”!
Week 1 team dinner of spaghetti at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church was a hit! Coach Mitchell shared his “word of the week” of P.H.D (Pride, Heart, Desire). Junior Micah Thompson will join yearly captains seniors Patrick Bruening, Davin Wilson, and Tyler Heitz.

Dan Campbell has a special spot in his heart for high school football.
I asked the Lions head coach if he had a message for players and coaches beginning their seasons. His answer was as fantastic as you’d expect it to be.
Ready for football season? Check out the 2026 Charles City Football Schedule and get ready to cheer on our team!
Final day of @CentralDutchFB team camp.
THANK YOU to those who attended, those who provided financial help so anybody who wanted to attend could, parents for their trust, & for the coaches who helped out. It was a worthwhile experience in ways far greater than the game itself.
It might have been ☀️ but that doesn’t matter when you are with your teammates! We didn’t get all done what we wanted to due to a power washer issue, but we did get our halftime location cleaned out and a bigger white board installed.
Little things adding up all summer long!
We completed a modified version of the military fitness test last week, with some of it happening in the rain! Thank you to SSG Tristan Vanatta of the Iowa National Guard for organizing the event! ☄️🇺🇸💪🏈
The Charles City Softball game was the place to be tonight as there was a tremendous turnout. We were glad to be a part of cheering on our fellow Comets!
Time well spent last week at the mobile food bank helping our community, getting to know teammates better, and interacting with other volunteers.
Beautiful day for a football camp put on by Luther College. Thanks to Crestwood for hosting as well as having New Hampton, Central Springs and of course Charles City in attendance.
Members of the football team attended the baseball game to cheer on their fellow Comets! We used the portable bleachers to make a premier spot located near the concession stand. Look for us at a softball game later this summer!
During the 4th quarter, we tracked roster participation in areas of spring sports, S&C, academics, goal setting, community service as well as other areas. Our top three “Comet Pride Point” earners are pictured: Tyler Heitz, 2nd, Cullen Heeren 1st, and Micah Thompson 3rd.
