The COMESA Competition and Consumer Commission (CCCC ) has joined the COMESA Business Council, Zimbabwe Trade Forum and the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce in the 19th COMESA Business Forum which is being held in Harare, Zimbabwe along the sidelines of the COMESA Summit, from 19-21 October 2026. #Istanbul #Turkiye #Collaboration Turkiye-Africa collaboration. The Turkish Competition Authority and 27 African competition authorities, comprising of both regional and national, converged in Istanbul, Turkiye for the, "Turkiye-Africa Competition Authorities Meeting" which took place end of September 2026. A first of its kind! COMESA Competition and Consumer Commission ("CCCC") represented by its CEO, Dr Willard Mwemba, shared the experience of the CCCC in regulating competition in the 21 Member States of COMESA. His presentation focused on why collaboration matters to competition regulators and highlighted the experience of COMESA in collaborating with national competition authorities in COMESA, regional and international regulators. The presentation included highlights of specific cases handled in collaboration with other competition agencies leading to more effective enforcement and lessons learnt from these interactions. Dr Mwemba observed that building technical expertise and institutional capacity enables Authorities to investigate and address increasingly complex anti-competitive conduct, mergers and consumer violations more effectively and efficiently. Ultimately, stronger institutions contribute to the development of fair, competitive and transparent markets while safeguarding consumer welfare, supporting economic growth and advancing regional integration. Dr. Mwemba paid a moving tribute to names he termed remarkable and extraordinary in the field of competition law and suggested to constitute a Committee of Elders who should continue imparting their invaluable knowledge and wealth of experience to the next generation of competition enforcers. #PracticeNote #Representation #CCCCPanel Practice Note recently issued by the COMESA Competition and Consumer Commission (CCCC) on representation before its adjudicative arm, the Panel Responsible for Determinations. ✅Regulation 73 of the COMESA Competition and Consumer Protection Regulations 2025 provides that a party may elect to be represented in proceedings before the Commission by a person of their choice. ✅The Board has directed that every person representing a party before the Panel shall complete a Special Power of Attorney evidencing his or her authority to act on behalf of the party and where the person representing a party appears in a professional legal capacity, that person shall additionally file proof that he or she is admitted and authorised to practise law in a Member State of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA). That was the message of the Fourth Meeting of the Competition and Consumer Authorities of the Regional Economic Communities (RCCAs) of East African Community (EAC), the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU/UEMOA) which was held on 18-19 September 2026 in Banjul, Gambia on the sidelines of the inaugural annual ECOWAS Regional Competition Authority (ERCA) conference. The RCCAs meet annually to discuss matters of common interest in order to strengthen cross border cooperation and collaboration on competition and consumer protection matters.
