We must protect rural communities. For the past two years, the rural way of life has been under attack.
The countryside is ready for a reset. This Budget will reveal whether the government is ready too.

The family farm tax continues to put too many farmers through unnecessary stress and anxiety. Scrapping it in its entirety would be the right thing to do. It will signal that this government wants to begin repairing the relationship between Westminster and rural people. The countryside is ready for a rural reset. The Budget will tell us whether the government is ready too.

Another blow to the countryside if the Chancellor goes down this road. Thousands of jobs risked. Politically problematic too. Racing is Britain’s second biggest spectator sport.

In a letter to the Chancellor, the Countryside Alliance warned plans to tax holiday lets as second homes would render “sound rural businesses unviable” and damage visitor numbers.

The hated family farm tax is a hangover from the last government that’s causing misery. Ditch it. Only then can the government begin resetting its relationship with the countryside.

If only the Government had been warned about this. Repeatedly. From the moment they announced the changes to APR/BPR.
The best thing the Chancellor could do to reset their disastrous rural record is show they’ve listened and later this month abolish the changes to IHT.

Spot on: “as a starter” we need to ditch the awful family farm tax, once and for all.
The idea this issue had gone away was fantasy.
If the government wants to show it’s serious about a rural reset, abolishing this blatant wrong would be a welcome start.newsandstar.co.uk/news/26596…

This promises to be an excellent event on Monday - not least because I'm there (alongside some other panelists you may have heard of).
For years the @Daily_Express has spoken to many people across rural Britain, many of whom increasingly feel left behind and forgotten.
Come along, and let's hear how Victoria and Katie think they can win again in the countryside.
