Myth or fact? 'The UK is one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world'. This🧵explains how a scientic finding is wrongly used to lament the UK's biodiversity crisis, especially on farmland. bbc.co.uk/newsround/58863097

Trail hunting is an important part of rural Britain and the communities that sustain it. For too long, rural communities have felt overlooked by policymakers. At the launch of our Campaign for the Countryside, we asked people why it's so important that the countryside has a voice in decisions that affect it. #RuralReset #CampaignForTheCountryside #TrailHunting

We are not the most nature depleted country. That's just a myth. We are one of the most human altered countries, i.e. one with the least amount of truly wild places. Our biodiversity is actually quite high for a small country, partly as a result of human intervention.

Great campaign from @GreyhoundBoard Always remember that animal rights does not equal animal welfare
She thought greyhound racing was cruel. Until she saw it with her own eyes. Listen to her story, in her own words 👇🏻 Seeing Is Believing, our new campaign, launches today.

Ahead of Andy Burnham’s speech at the Labour Party conference, people from across the countryside have joined together with a simple message: listen to rural communities and engage with the people who live and work in them. From farming and food to rural businesses, jobs and communities, the countryside has a huge contribution to make and it needs to be part of the conversation. It’s time for a rural reset. What a huge week we’ve had. Bringing together voices from across the countryside to say enough is enough: it’s time for a rural reset. Will Andy Burnham and the government listen? For the past two years, the rural way of life has been under attack, from the family farm tax and National Insurance rises, to affordability checks on horse racing, plans to ban trail hunting and restrict game shooting. All of these measures could be avoided or changed, if only their impact on the countryside was understood. What’s needed now is a government willing to work with the countryside - not against it.
