Shocked to hear of the loss of @j_a_byers He didn't know me at all, but said yes to me asking to do a sabbatical in @ByersLabBC . What an amazing mentor, chemist, and person. I learned so much from him and the group. What a monumental loss.

Really sad news. The world definitely lost an enthusiastic chemist and mentor. @j_a_byers spent a lot of his time to teach his students @ByersLabBC carefully and passionately. He will be greatly missed.

Tragic to learn about @j_a_byers. Jeff was a friend and mentor in grad school. The last time I spent significant time with him was when he came for a seminar in 2021, including a Hokies game. When he came by my lab, he gave us a critical schlenk line safety tips. What a guy. RIP

I’m in shock at this news. What a tremendous loss for everyone who knew Jeff and treasured him as family, colleague, mentor, and friend. Thinking especially of his family, BC colleagues, and group. There are no words for the sorrow.💔

I met Jeff when I had just started my faculty position at Stony Brook in 2017 at a BRIC meeting at Brown U. He was so supportive and encouraging. So shocked by this terrible loss.

Today, organometallic chemistry suffered the tremendous loss of outstanding teacher, mentor, and scientist Prof. Jeff Byers. But to me, he was a grad school friend who grew into a colleague, collaborator, and conference buddy. His loss will be felt by many for a long time.

Jeff @j_a_byers was the biggest support and role modeI I had in grad school. He guided us through the PhD life with great wisdom and warmth. I was very fortunate to have him as an advisor, I miss him greatly.

The world lost a great scientist, mentor, and friend today with the passing of @j_a_byers. I will always remember his support of me and the rest of the @ByersLabBC. He was never too busy to explain a difficult concept or just chat about struggles. He will be greatly missed.

I usually don't RT our own publications, but I can't resist in this case because the first tweet didn't include our TOC graphic, which I'm excited to share with y'all:

Collaborative work from @ByersLabBC and the Tsung research groups at BC shows how aperture opening events in MOFs can be used to encapsulate a transition metal complex that catalyzes the hydrogenation of carbon dioxide to formic acid: acspubs.co/y0zS30kEqrH
