On #DayOfTheGirl, UNDP’s #SESEHA project equipped 833 schools & health facilities in Afghanistan with solar PV, benefiting 812,000+ women & girls, including 4,410 female teachers & 1,607 female healthcare workers. It also trained & deployed 20 female solar PV technicians.
⚡SESEHA is bringing clean, reliable energy to essential health 🏥and education 📚services across Afghanistan. More facilities are in the pipeline. Sustaining this progress requires continued investment in reliable energy and stronger service delivery to better serve communities.
Across 19 provinces, @UNDP through SESEHA has brought clean, reliable energy to 800 health and education facilities, including 621 schools, 154 health centres, 18 district hospitals and 7 provincial hospitals.

Afghan products in Saudi Arabia!
With @EUinAfghanistan funding, five Afghan businesses showcased dried fruits, nuts, spices and fruit concentrates at #SaudiFoodShow2026 through the ACRP project, connecting Afghan products with international markets.
🌱 Afghanistan’s global emissions footprint is small, but clean energy can deliver big development gains. SESEHA is reducing emissions while ⚡️powering essential health🏥 & education services🏫—showing that climate action and development can go hand in hand. @KfW_int @riadmeddeb.
Solar systems installed through the SESEHA programme are expected to generate 17,148 MWh of clean electricity annually and avoid an estimated 13,718 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year.
#CleanEnergyAfghanistan
⚡ Small in scale, big in impact. #SESEHA’s 9.8 MW of solar is strengthening essential services delivery. As the country spends $220–280M annually on imported electricity, every MW of reliable domestic clean energy also means local jobs and economic opportunities in AFG.
Between January 2023 and September 2026, @UNDP installed 9.8 MWp of solar power capacity through SESEHA, providing reliable clean energy to 800 health and education facilities across Afghanistan.
#CleanEnergyAfghanistan
⚡ Energy access goes beyond installation—it is about sustaining the service. SESEHA is investing in 🔧 O&M, 👩🔧 local capacity and 💡 business models to keep solar investments delivering for communities throughout the lifetime of the systems in AFG. @KfW_int @ADB_HQ @riadmeddeb.
BETWEEN JANUARY 2023 AND SEPTEMBER 2026
Through solar-powered schools and health facilities, UNDP supported 743,470 women and girls across Afghanistan with improved access to education and healthcare services.

A welcome step to strengthen SMEs and support new businesses in Afghanistan. Improved access to finance can also help renewable energy startups and other emerging sectors grow, invest, and create jobs.
81st session of UNGA “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All”
- now the question is "How do we build a global governance system that is representative of today's countries, responsive to today's problems, and trusted by the people"?

4. Data impact hub to respond more swiftly to global crises.
5. Reform UN Security Council – the continents of Africa and South America are left out
6. Response to the growing security risks posed by climate change, pandemic, bio-risk management, AI etc.
No doubt- the unit cost of electricity from solar☀️ is cheaper than conventional fossil fuel 🛢based technologies. Wind Energy is competitive as well. Afghanistan's current 5 GW power demand ⚡️can be fulfilled with least cost technology choices. Private sec. must play a key role. – at Afghanistan

This is how development prevents displacement. In Zabul province, the Tansa Check Dam holds back floods, recharges groundwater, and helps irrigate fields, helping people to stay in their communities and build better lives.

If realized, this 10 GW initiative could be a game changer—positioning Afghanistan among the countries that have achieved a remarkable energy transition, unlocking new opportunities and reshaping its economic growth; and regional connectivity.

Clean energy is powering brighter futures in Panjab, Bamyan. Through solarization projects supported by @UNDPaf, schools now have reliable electricity, giving students access to technology while reducing reliance on fossil fuels and lowering energy costs.
Building on the successful MSME credit guarantee mechanism, @UNDPaf is now working with financial institutions and partners to de-risk renewable energy investments through innovative credit guarantee mechanisms.
On the third day of his visit to Afghanistan, @alexanderdecroo met entrepreneurs and representatives of the private sector in Kabul to discuss access to finance, MSME growth, women-led businesses, and practical ways to support job creation and recovery.
Unlocking private capital for clean energy ⚡️is key to creating jobs👷👷♀️🧑🏭👩🏭, strengthening energy security, and supporting sustainable economic recovery in Afghanistan. #GreenFinance #RenewableEnergy #PrivateSector #Afghanistan

Every evening, the lights 💡from a small school on a hill in Laghman shine across the valley.
What was once just a school has become the heart of the community🫶—a place for learning, gathering, safety, and hope.
That's the power of access to energy and #SESEHA at @UNDPaf. @UNDP
In Laghman’s Sabarabad village, with support from UNDP’s SESEHA project, the school now serves 250 students, including 96 girls, and provides light, water, and phone charging for nearby families.
