As Kenya approaches the onset of the October–December (OND) 2026 Short Rains, the window of opportunity to prepare for the potential impacts of evolving El Niño conditions is now. Time is running out. We must move from #EarlyWarning to #EarlyAction. The Kenya Meteorological Service Authority (KMSA) will continue to closely monitor evolving weather and climate conditions and provide timely forecasts, advisories, warnings and technical guidance to support national and county preparedness and response. As a technical member of Kenya’s National Technical Working Group on #AnticipatoryAction, KMSA will continue working with government institutions, humanitarian partners and other stakeholders to provide the scientific information, including relevant triggers, thresholds and forecast-based guidance, needed to support the timely activation of anticipatory actions before vulnerable communities are affected. KMSA will also continue engaging the media and other communication partners across the entire Disaster Risk Management continuum, from preparedness and anticipatory action to response and recovery, to ensure that early warning information reaches the people who need it and leads to timely action. The science is informing us. The window to prepare is now. #ElNinoPreparedness #EarlyWarningForAll #EarlyAction #AnticipatoryAction #OND2026 #DisasterRiskManagement
