Rest in peace @druinok. You were an amazing dedicated math educator whose influence was felt across the country. You were one of my biggest sounding boards during virtual learning and your Saturday Zoom meet-ups helped me emotionally during that time. I will miss you, Shelli. 💙

Find Your (Math) People

Teaching is hard. The day-to-day cycle of planning, presenting, orchestrating, testing, and reflecting is continuous, and there’s always the uncertainty of how the students will show up (or not) to…

Who says retrieval practice is boring!?! Make it competitive and collaborative. Students will eat it up like in this “Notecard Retrieval Chain” where they had to retrieve three causes, effects, and solutions for deforestation in the Amazon with each student adding one new detail.

Dear Texans, Trump is going to take away Special Ed funding and Title 1 funding. Abbott is going to take away public school funding when he passes vouchers. 75% of Rural counties do not have private schools. Pub Schools are the top employers. Doesn't sound good for Rural Tx.

Vouchers are controversial not based on the # of states w/ a program. It's controversial b/c we expect elected officials to use evidence from rigorous studies to make decisions, such as studies from OH, LA, IN finding that students using vouchers have statistically significant negative achievement outcomes. @GinaForAustin @jamestalarico @TexasAFT @tasanet @TEPSAtalk @RYHTexas @EveryTxn @txstateteachers @MomsAGAbbott @DianeRavitch #txlege

No matter what the Democrats want you to think, school choice isn’t controversial. In fact, over 30 states in America already have school choice programs. It’s time Texas joins them.

None of the school voucher programs in other states are working. Florida has seen student outcomes decline. Arizona's school voucher bureaucracy is plagued by fraud and hemorrhaging money. propublica.org/article/arizo…

School Vouchers Were Supposed to Save Taxpayer Money. Instead They Blew a Massive Hole in Arizona’s...

Arizona, the model for voucher programs across the country, has spent so much money paying private schoolers’ tuition that it’s now facing hundreds of millions in budget cuts to critical state...

To teach is to show or explain how to do something. I can plan to teach a lesson. I teach the lesson. But that doesn't guarantee learning. If I design for learning instead, I will have made all the purposeful & intentional choices required to produce evidence of learning.

Ask yourself this question: "Why hasn't Gov Abbott come to sell vouchers at my Public School if vouchers are so great?" Well Why? Why hasn't he gone to rural Texas where there are no private schools to sell vouchers?

Even Abbott admits it: Texas public schools will LOSE money thanks to this ridiculous voucher scheme. Fewer teachers, more school closures, MORE property taxes as districts struggle to make ends meet. Call your rep, tell them NO vouchers 512-463-4630 houstonchronicle.com/politic…

Greg Abbott says vouchers could lead to less funding for public schools

But the Texas governor later accused Democrats of “lies & fear mongering” in arguing vouchers will drain public school funding.

Greg Abbott is losing it because his voucher scam has been exposed. Texas schools will lose billions they now use for academics, athletics, teacher training, student support. In dozens of Texas counties there’s not even a single private school that parents can “choose” to send their kids to.
