what’s the best way ‘to introduce’ mathematics? by ‘stringed’ music: doubling/halving strings for ‘octaves’… ‘fractions’ for ‘notes in between’… logarithms/exponentials for calculations. certainly not by ‘long division’ and ‘times tables’…
“we added structural braces to convert vertical forces into horizontal around a beam…”
yer, whatever architects: ‘T or ⅂-shaped building’ is always unstable even when it’s ’stable.’
‘air rights and building’ - basically like ‘jenga’ but with actual buildings all waiting to fall down. architects are mathematically clueless… and as for their builders, they just care about money.
‘basement extension’ - putting in ‘basement’ where before there was none.
amusement: listening to realtor blustering away about how “it isn’t structurally compromising to building and neighbouring buildings, as you say.”
ancient greeks came up with this discrete ‘solid/liquid/gas’ idea. what ‘state of matters’ is ‘neutron’ in? discovered by jams chadwick around 1934.

‘a single magnet’ is viewed as ‘split’ into a ‘north pole’ and ‘south pole’ - but what’s happening where ‘north’ meets ‘south’ as it’s one magnet?
‘1+1=2’
well, from electricity engineering - the new ‘subject’ at college - that’s only true when the 1s are in series; when in parallel we get 1/2.
“this is 20, the product of 4 and 5 but also 10 and 2”
how ancient brokers prevented forgery, eg changing ‘20’ to ‘20,000,000,’ by writing out little mnemonics.
china govt. bond yield collapses (ie capital value soars) from 1.72% to 1.59% over this working week…
if commercial bank were to lose their banking license, as they might, they’d have to restrict their business to the largest 10 clients so as not to fall foul of licensing rules… and turn ‘private.’
what if the monthly service charge goes to £1000? remember they’re like that… well one would have to buy/sell govt. bills (which is what fiat ‘banking’ is) through ‘govt. portal’…
‘# of current accounts’ is never released by commercial banks: but at £57bn ‘market cap,’ assuming one account is charged £11/mo (and 5% discount) over 22m (paying) accounts are needed to justify that market value!
“how does one calculate the value of a commercial bank?”
excellent question. there’s standard p/b ramblings… but in reality it’s ’the discounted value’ of the £11/month service charge per account!
