The high cost of living is a challenge not only for the #BayArea, but for places across the country. Proud to be a friend & partner w @UWBayArea. We discussed my Poverty Line Act, a bill to modernize the woefully outdated federal limit. Huge thanks to our panelists & speakers!
This week we had the honor of exchanging friendship bracelets with @repkevinmullin!
Oh, and we hosted an exclusive presentation and panel discussion about the real cost of living in the Bay Area and beyond! ⬇️🧵

17% of Black children and 16% of Latino kids ages 5 and under lived with a family member who had to quit, change, or refuse a job because of child care issues in 2021, according to @AECFNews’ latest Kids Count data. What does child care cost in your state?axios.com/2023/06/15/child-c…

9,419 children under 2 in San Mateo County are eligible for subsidized child care. Do you know how many seats there are available? 409. That means that only 4% of the need for subsidized child care is actually being met. That is an enormous equity gap, and it is not sustainable.

This story highlights why I’m fighting for the inclusion of a 25.44% cost-of-living raise in the #CaBudget for child care providers. With state subsidies barely covering costs, it’s a step toward preventing closures. Child care is essential to our economy. latimes.com/california/story…

C’mon, California - we can do this! The advocacy for publicly funded childcare is multi-sector and bipartisan - literally everybody wins.
Across NYS, business leaders, child care educators, parents and advocates are calling on lawmakers to include significant, sustained funding for child care in the final state budget – funding that exceeds that included in @GovKathyHochul's Executive Budget. #NYSUniversalChildCare
