I found out that Edge was secretly running in the background and replicating the same tabs and details I used in my default browser on Windows 11.
@grok how can I stop Edge from spying on me?

Genuinely I'm so tired of this copycat browser that only seems to make the browsing experience worse for everyone
- Constant nagging "Make edge your default browser"
- Scareware whenever you browse Google Search
- It's so freaking big too, and a battery drain
Nothing good.
Microsoft is switching off add-blocker uBlock Origin in Edge.
Starting this month, Edge begins disabling Manifest V2 extensions by default, with consumer rollout to be completed by the end of 2026, enterprise devices in early 2027.
uBlock Origin has 13M+ Edge installs and no MV3 version, because MV3 removes the blocking webRequest API it depends on.
Chrome already killed Manifest V2 for good in July 2025 and clears the last MV2 extensions off its store on 31 August. Edge held out until now.

If you need a map to unsubscribe, it's probably a dark pattern, not a design flaw.
These deceptive techniques are used by online platforms to manipulate users' behaviour, often without their knowledge or consent.
The DSA is helping tackle them: link.europa.eu/mDgPry
Everywhere the DMA doesn't apply, people trying to use a browser that isn't Edge still get blocked, nudged, or misled. That's not a technical limitation — Europe just proved it's a choice. Full report: mzl.la/browser-choice-report

They should make Windows a trusted platform for end users first. They can start by respecting the default browser and not forcing Edge

I'd love to know why I just restarted my computer and all of a sudden Microsoft Edge was my default browser.....

Would you like to make Microsoft Edge your default browser?
(For the 97th time this year, 864 times so far lifetime.) The answer is still no.

I’ve never seen anything as persistent as Microsoft Edge trying to make itself my default browser.

Microsoft this is the exact reason people don't like windows
Mind you I don't use edge and didn't even open it this just appeared out of nowhere.

Dear @Microsoft if I set my default browser to whatever I expect everything in your software suite to respect my decision and not randomly choose to open links in edge.
I know it’s a lot to ask this but for once you could actually respect user options.

“Microsoft Edge is not your default browser.”
Yes, I’m aware. It was a very deliberate choice.

Microsoft Edge pops up all the time, at random, even though my default browser is Firefox. I am getting out of the Windows ecosystem slowly, using Ubuntu whenever possiible and it's on all my old PCs.
Also make an image of your disk , in case absolute disaster, you can restore it. If that's complicated, keep back up by copy pasting files on an external drive. So nothing is really lost.

Microsoft's latest Copilot update opens any link you click inside the app in a built-in side panel powered by Edge, bypassing your default browser entirely, along with its extensions, passwords, and settings.
Microsoft says it keeps conversations and web content together for better context, but users get no opt-out choice.

Thoughts? I upgraded to Windows 11 several months ago, & it tried to take over my system in ways that I did not want. Now, it still gets 'grabby.' So I asked AI for alternatives. This is what it came up with. Thoughts? "To move away from Microsoft due to anti-competitive concerns, switch your operating system to Linux (Ubuntu, Mint) or macOS, and replace Edge with independent browsers like Firefox, Brave, Vivaldi, or Opera. Replace Microsoft 365 with Google Workspace, LibreOffice, or Zoho Office for better privacy and competition-friendly alternatives." #StopTheMicrosoftCoup

Starting to get annoyed by this.
No matter your default browser settings, applications like Teams and Outlook will open links in Edge.
Is uninstalling it the ultimate solution?
