This timeline is scary. I had a good friend pass after flying with an unknown blood clot. God speed, Mr. Hurts.
Breaking: #Eagles QB Jalen Hurts is out for Sunday due to a superficial blood clot.
Full statement from the #Eagles on QB Jalen Hurts:
“On Thursday, October 8th, Jalen visited the training room after practice requesting treatment for his calf. He informed the medical staff he had been cleated during the Rams game on October 4th. This was his first treatment session for the calf injury following the game, after having practiced in full both Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday, Jalen received treatment, practiced in full, and was added to the practice report.
“Out of an abundance of caution, an ultrasound was performed on Saturday following the team’s flight to London and walkthrough. The ultrasound revealed a superficial blood clot. Our medical staff and doctors in London reviewed the results and concluded that activity and mobility were important and that Jalen could safely play. Doctors recommended a follow-up ultrasound within 72 hours of the game and the return flight to Philadelphia.
“Jalen played without limitation in the game Sunday, received treatment on Monday and Tuesday, and practiced in full on Wednesday, as reflected in the practice report. Throughout our time in London and this week, we have remained in communication with the league office regarding the matter.
"On Wednesday night, a follow-up ultrasound revealed movement in the small blood clot. Jalen will be out for Sunday’s game vs. the Panthers as we determine the appropriate course of treatment. His health and safety are our highest priority.”

There are 3 truly elite guys in the league right now.
Boye Mafe has been a nice signing for the Bengals.

Just got done working my way through the defensive film from yesterday, focusing exclusively on Abney. Had zero expectations going into the watch. Some quick thoughts.
1. Free safety is often deep enough to not involved in the play, so overall impact is limited.
2. There were some early coverage confusions, busts that didn't hurt because the Cardinals didn't see/attack them. Positioning got better in the second half.
3. Frequently used as a bracket defender on McBride and occasionally Wilson. Thought that was where Abney was best on Sunday.
4. He was not part of the red zone package. As soon as the Cards moved inside the 20, he subbed out for Mills. Makes sense. Can't throw everything on a rookie's plate making his first start.
5. Run support was minimal, but he did have an excellent run blitz and tackle. Overall, tackling was good in limited opportunities.
Not sure it will make for an actually good film review write up. I'll decide that tomorrow morning. Better focus would probably be how the Lions approached trying to take away McBride/Wilson, with a subsection on Abney's safety debut.

#Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs is on a Jim Brown career pace.
Gibbs through 54 career games:
• 5,776 scrimmage yards (107.0 per game)
• 58 TDs (1.07 per game)
Jim Brown's career (118 games):
• 14,811 scrimmage yards (125.5 per game)
• 126 TDs (1.07 per game)
They're the only 2 players in NFL history to average 100+ scrimmage yards and 1+ TD per game (min. 40 games).

HOLY SHIT
That was the most disciplined defense I've seen on fourth down.
Seriously, watch the coverage.

Skyler Gill-Howard’s stat line through the first 4 weeks is NOT talked about enough:
• 136 total defensive snaps
• 11 total pressures (1st among rookies)
• 2 QB hits (2nd among rookies)
• 8 QB hurries (1st among rookies)
The Lions rookie DT has been an ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE for opposing QB’s 😳😈

Embracing a concept I learned a long time ago, I'm not just going to complain about the Lions defense. I offered some practical solutions to help Kelvin Sheppard and the Detroit D overcome their early struggles.

As much as I want the Lions to win this game, this is 100% the smart move. This game ultimately means little. Making sure the OL is healthy for the long haul much more important. Get 10 days rest, win the next 3 after this; go into the bye 4-1. And if win tonight, all the better.
