At the first FaB Pro Tour I played in 2024 we had an insanely narrow meta. Part the Mistveil had been released and with it Zen, Nuu, and Enigma were unleashed upon the playerbase.
Zen and Nuu were clearly the top two decks in the format by a mile with Enigma struggling due to it's Zen matchup and not solved until later.
This made for a metagame that you could effectively target if you could find a deck that could beat Zen and Nuu. Problem was, most players could not find a deck that could effectively target one of the most explosive decks we've ever seen AND one of the most disruptive.
Except for two players. Shoma Yamamura and Taotao Chu were the only two players to bring Uzuri, Switchblade. An assassin written off as just being a worse deck than Nuu and therefor no reason to be brought.
The difference was Uzuri was dominant into Zen, disrupting him so efficiently it felt hopeless as seen in Shoma's finals match. But while Nuu could disrupt Zen as well, she would have to play a much more volatile mirror match with other Nuus, while Uzuri was able to disrupt Nuu efficiently while blocking all her disruption resulting in an extremely favorable matchup against her.
This gave the ability to target the two best decks in format and open up a run for a rogue deck.
The reason Uzuri wasn't widespread while having these two positive matchups was also do to how many atrocious matchups she had into the field. If she ever saw a Guardian she'd instantly fold, and Enigma would have likely been able to 40-0 her as well, this caused many assassin players to just immediately drop her for Nuu who completely flipped the guardian matchup and felt great into the field. Zen and Nuu held each of these classes/heroes down enough that there were decent odds of avoiding them and Shoma did.
The result is that Shoma is able to make it into a Top 8 featuring 3 Zen, 3 Nuu, and another rogue Levia (which was crazy because Zen was a completely unplayable MU).
Shoma was able to glide through this Top 8 to a dominant Pro Tour win. Taotao the only other player on the deck finished 35th.
I bring this up because we're going into a Riftbound meta that many players are saying is either Kennen, or Green/Purple (Irelia and Riven).
If someone can find a deck that consistently beats both, the field may have consolidated enough for a legendary run like this to happen at the RC. And they just have to take the risk to find a miracle run and become a legend.
This guy has been nothing but helpful in helping me serve millions of page views and thousands of daily users and has a real passion for the latest development tools and workflows. He’s great to work with despite us being “competitors” has been helpful for the love of the game.
I just got laid off by Startpage/System1 today as a Sr Software Engineer.
I am now open and looking for a new opportunity at any company that needs another software engineer. I have vast experience with a lot of parts of the full stack including: Frontend/Backend, Infrastructure (aws, k8s, etc), agentic workflows, and much much more. I care deeply about the software that I build and I hope to have this chance again at another role :)
I will be setting up a fresh resume and my personal site to cast as wide of a net as I possibly can.

Thinking back and realizing that you can’t really assume the meta is figured out even 2 months into a set.
Origins came out and everyone was on Kaisa and Yi but then suddenly it came out that Annie was a contender for top deck.
Spiritforge with Draven and Irelia but then Ornn, Azir have won major tournaments and Azir has snuck into being one of the top decks even now in Vendetta.
Unleashed had Diana and Leblanc and then Rengar climbed to the top and has surpassed them in Vendetta this far.
And now here we are in Vendetta and Kennen sat at the top, but now Akali has won 2 regionals and Jayce is proving to be a contender.
Keep exploring, keep building because people will say, “these are the best decks!” But in reality you just need to prove them wrong.

Results after round 4 - the first taste of the post ban meta, people are returning to Irelia, and the field is flatter overall.
The #riftbound Showdown Series continues in Lucca, Italy with a surprising meta composition!
Master Yi and Irelia plummet in play rate and we see a flatter field after Kennen who stays as the most played.
Will this trend continue in Baltimore today?
Singapore RQ final meta spread
Kennen is a menace
Irelia followed the hype of China but didn’t deliver
Jayce bounced back
Rengar performing well
Yi regressing to the mean (are all the good players going elsewhere?)

Best of Lillia #RQSingapore
69th/2054 😏
slightly short of top 64 but still happy to hit my main objective
@jordenjordenn our list is finally NOT second-best-of anymore
I swear the Vendetta Lillia 🦌 guide is coming! Heading oversea next weekend for my sister's wedding and will complete it during the "vacation"
Aside from facing 0 Kennens, I was super lucky that all my opponents played fair and square and didn't do anything shady, making my first RQ a really good experience so thank you @riftboundop
First look at #rqbarcelona meta - many players are still missing decks in the standings, but Master Yi fell to 3rd as of now and Irelia picking up steam after the recent Chinese open

Pre-Regional Challenge - #RQSingapore 1pm
Kennen (14.2%), Master Yi (12.6%), Irelia (7.5%)
topped 1,436 pilots by play rate.
Interesting to see the field without best ofs not being dominated by Yi

The September and October Showdown lineup is looking STACKED! 👀

"China builds differently" is half true, and I can tell you which half - let's do a #riftbound analysis on China vs. the world in deck building on Irelia, PG Yi, Kennen, and Rengar:
Wuhan Regional vs the 6 100+ person non-Chinese events with decklists*
🧵👇
Finally we can take a look at Kennen, the most played and often times most winning deck. Decree of unity (and all decrees actually) has been picking up steam in sideboards, and Ravenbloom Prefect seems to be less sided in China - is that them writing off its potential?
Notes and caveats:
*I wish I had the full Barcelona decklists - I don't want to scrape other sites and only get my data from Riot sources. Instead they are being frontrun and posted exclusively through another Riftbound deck site instead of UVS - I'm not a fan of that obviously.
All Chinese decks can be found on BoundRift, and you can do your own analysis with our meta explorer which now includes all Chinese Regionals and City League events.
