if i play an empyrean and have no cards in hand or cards on board can i still show-off?
as i understand it show-off is a replacement effect. if empyrean exists in hand while making choices i should be able reveal it. if it’s on board i should be able to point to it

The Riftbound team have finalized their decision regarding the RC prizing changes but I had some thoughts I wanted to voice. I do ultimately agree with their decision to change the prizing structure for the RC to combat collusion and maintain competitive integrity, but I would've liked to see two changes:
1. Best-of winners within the top 58 should get priority pick for their legend before the draft begins
2. Standard best-ofs should be rewarded for all legends, including Origins and Spiritforged.
Best of winners within the top 58 should get priority pick for their legend before the draft.
A significant part of Riftbound's success stems from the League of Legends IP. Many players are excited to play their favorite champions from League in Riftbound and they feel a special connection to their legends. Even if a player manages to finish at the top of their legend and top 58, there is no guarantee that they can win the ON foil best-of card for their own legend. It would feel terrible to compete with a legend that means something to you, play well enough to secure best-of and top 58, but then watch someone else who placed higher to choose your legend, primarily for monetary reasons (who have the right to do so). For example, Gorica could bring Akali to the RC to win the ON foil best-of for his partner, finish within the top 8 as the highest Akali, but watch someone in the top 4 take the ON Akali. This kind of occurrence may leave a bad taste in many competitor's mouths even after a weekend of great performance.
Standard best-ofs should be rewarded for all legends, including OGN and SFD. This kind of goes beyond the scope of the RC and I have two reasons for this point.
First, the RC is the highest level of Riftbound competitive play so far, and many people believe that players should play the strongest decks in an attempt to win. Having best-of prizing only for sets 3-5 goes against this spirit by discouraging players from playing old legends and this mismatch between what decks are legal and what decks have best-of prizing skews the data for what decks would be represented in the format and what decks would perform. I think this probably would be worse than before, since Spiritforged has many strong legends that no longer has best-of prizing, and the problem would get worse as more sets rotate out of best-of prizing.
Having too many legends with best-of prizing available would lead to a tournament that is a bit of a mess, but for the RC, I thought that requiring a 4-2 finish at the tournament with all the top players would be enough to ensure some minimum quality to the decks that are being played. I think it's a shame that most old legends won't get a shot in the spotlight since they would be riskier to bring in terms of potential return.
The other reason applies to the whole Riftbound community as a whole, not just the competitive scene. Once a legend no longer has best of prizing available, there is very little reason for the best competitive players to continue playing that legend, especially for those who play Riftbound as their full time job. As a result, very little innovation occurs for these old legends even if new cards are printed to support and elevate them, which kind of sucks. This has a negative impact on the casual player base, who may want to play older legends, but might struggle to find a good decklist since there will be less resources available and no best-of list to reference. Riftbound has a lot of players that have never played a TCG before and deckbuilding is very challenging without a comprehensive understanding of the game. Even if some players find great success with an old deck in their local community, it would be difficult for it to catch on elsewhere without credibility (imo a skirmish win means nothing).
I hope the Riftbound team is able to come up with a solution for these problems as the competitive structure matures. I understand that there are a lot of factors at play with precedents/promises that have been set early in the game's lifespan, but in the future, I would like to see best-of cards be available for all legal legends, but with strict requirements that require a certain level of performance.

Hey @davetron, this seems like a great idea!
To keep with the Kai'sa example, in LA the top Kai'sa (@lolwillwin) finished 9th overall. Let's say the same thing happened at the RC. Under this scenario he'd have the option to either lock-in the ON Kai'sa for himself OR take the 9th overall pick from the pool.
You could even consider doing a bubble down system. Let's pretend a Kennen wins the tourney. They decline the best-of ON (because they want to pick Ahri), but there's another Kennen who finished in the top 8... you could consider giving the 2nd place Kennen dibs on the lock-in (which might seem more fair especially in situations where the best-of is decided by tie-breakers)

Something cool Riot could do with the top 58 players at RC is reserve the respective Legend for the best performing legend player.
For example, if Timothy places 58th overall playing Kai’Sa, but is the #1 Kai’Sa player overall at the event, they should get first dibs on Kai’Sa.
