2 of 25: Pancho’s Mexican Cafe. Redwood City, 1960s. A Retro Bay Area Series: 50 Eateries of The Bay Area Past 👩‍🍳👨‍🍳🛎️ Pancho’s was located at 1918 El Camino Real in Redwood City. Today the location is a Wingstop. 🍗🛑 The interior of this Mexican restaurant apparently earned a National Design Award 🏆 from Institutions Magazine in the 1960s. I could see why. It looked like a lot of time, thought and love went into designing the inside. The chandeliers, log ceiling, and the mural are all pretty amazing. Pancho’s slogan was, “One taste is worth ten thousand words.” They prided themselves on serving lunches and dinners seven days a week, which were seasoned to customers’ tastes. How many places on the Peninsula and across the Bay Area still look like this on the inside? I want to see them.
