In the jungle of Costa Rica, guests can sleep inside a jet.
Hotel Costa Verde, near Manuel Antonio National Park, offers a suite built from a 1965 Boeing 727. The plane flew for South Africa Air and Avianca before it was retired in 1990. The hotel bought it, took it apart, hauled it by truck through the jungle, and rebuilt it on a 50-foot pedestal.
Inside, the cabin has two bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, and is paneled in wood. Terraces built on the wings overlook the rainforest and the Pacific Ocean.
The hotel’s restaurant also sits in an aircraft, a former cargo plane with ties to the Iran-Contra scandal.

In 1942, German submarines were sinking ships all through the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico. Ernest Hemingway, living in Cuba, had a plan.
He fitted out his 38-foot fishing boat, the Pilar, with a radio, machine guns and grenades, and crewed it with friends, among them a jai alai player and a Cuban fisherman. The US embassy gave its approval and fuel.
The idea was that a U-boat would stop the Pilar to seize its fish and water. When it did, Hemingway's crew would pull alongside and toss grenades down the conning tower hatch.
They patrolled on and off for more than a year. They never engaged a submarine.
His wife, the war correspondent Martha Gellhorn, was unimpressed. She suspected it was mostly an excuse to go fishing on rationed gasoline.

Snoop says yes, and his reason is better than the usual “phones ruined everything” take.
In his era, getting with someone took real effort. You had to look at her, talk to her, get her to like you, and know her parents and how she moved. You had to get involved before you could get involved.
Now it’s a couple of pictures and a couple of lines, and people expect something real from a few typed words.
The part I found most interesting is his point about texting. A text gives you what he’s typing, not what he’s saying. “You look good today” can read as sweet or creepy depending on the mood of the person reading it. Text has no tone, face or feeling to go with it.
Approaching someone in person is hard on purpose. It makes you learn to read people, handle a no, and become someone worth talking to. When you skip that, you also skip what it would have taught you.
What he calls the cheat code ended up costing men the skill.
