staying on twitter just long enough to keep on top of ao3 updates (glad I was here now to see this and change my ao3 usage accordingly) and then going back on a fuckin’ cortisol cleanse and redeleting this app and leaving this rot to the maggots again

i think you guys are overblowing this ‘ao3 authors are crazy’ thing so you don’t have to feel bad about being dicks to the backbone of your fandom

So… …we’re all reporting when ao3 is back up, right? We all agree that having an OTW volunteer doing racist crashouts on Elon Musk’s internet is completely inappropriate and we will report accordingly. RIGHT???
oh my god it got even worse. ao3 moment

writers like comments and kudos = they're evil and only care about attention readers want drives filled with thousands of fics uploaded without the writers knowledge. they somehow can't wait for ao3 to be back and need to /consume/ as many fics as they possibly can = ???
What pains me about the current AO3 feud is how writers are criticized for wanting positive interaction while readers' entitlement to negative interaction goes unquestioned. Writers aren't owed anything, sure. But why are readers owed the right to criticize, police, and lash out?

idk man, an account on here just got like 25k likes for posting that your dick will fall out a lot during doggy style not realizing that that literally just means small cock, I don’t think numbers of twitter likes are equivalent to the validity of an argument

The goalposts are going to continue to move, by the way. They’re all clinging to “there’s no way they got millions of fics from drives” because “shit, obviously this is an ongoing issue and all insecure sources of fic are likely part of the puzzle” would require self-reflection.
bro what the fuck are we doing. is this just life now

The bottom line is, literally any argument that absolves them of responsibility is what they’re going to use. Recite with me the narcissist’s prayer: that didn’t happen. And if it did, it wasn’t that bad. And if it was, that’s not a big deal. And if it is, that’s not my fault. +

And if it was, I didn’t mean it. And if I did, you deserved it. In ao3’s name we pray, amen.

THIS. I’ve been working on my latest fic for well over a year, and it’s hardly the first time. If anyone could write fanfic, then everyone would have done that instead of hoarding and disseminating the work of others without a second thought.
I think this is the foundation concept behind the vitriol towards writers we’ve seen since the AO3 shutdown. “Anyone can type/edit/post a fic”. I’ve clocked over 300k words a year for three years, my acc is somewhere around a mil. Try it and let me know if it’s in fact work.

“making an ao3 block list for anti-drive writers” BROTHA you couldn’t go one single day without binging fic at the expense of writers’ autonomy, do you expect me to believe you’re going to make the effort to not mindlessly click on whatever fic wrings dopamine from your brain?

you couldn’t be bothered to download the fic you love, couldn’t be bothered to remember an author name or two to reach out, let’s be serious: we both know you’re too damn lazy to vet your fic binges. 😭 see you in my hits section in a couple weeks! 😘

starting to get to the point that it’s funny. like holy shit there are thousands of people out there who clicked an updoot button on the most illogical, self-serving opinions, and it is 100% because they consume all their media spiritually mouth open, lips dry. 😂 embarrassinggg

being a fan writer rn feels very much like being an actor in a popular IP. super fun at first, but then the fan base gets huge and the toxicity starts running rampant, and now you can’t say shit without a stunning percentage of “fans” being like “FUCK YOU, YOU’RE RUINING IT”

at this point, all I see is the equivalent of like “not MY captain america” or “why did they hire her, she’s ugly” like just arguments that are such a cope and so rooted in chronically online insecurity that you just have to go “🤦🏽well, there’s still a kind minority of normalcy.”

I make a rambling thread of ideas first to outline, then go back and start writing a real draft while deleting the thread as I finish those plot points. I find it helps ease the block to be able to read ahead and go “oh yeah, it’s almost THAT scene, can’t wait to get there!”
what is everyone’s best tips when u comes to writing fics. i often find myself giving up during the beginning stages of writing because i’m very hypercritical of my own work. it’s super discouraging and i was wondering if anyone had any ways they kind of just power thru it

77k links, of which 1.7k are google docs, 12.8k are drive folders, and the rest are epubs. For the docs and drive folders, the uploaders email IDs are visible, many with what appears to be their real names. I'm sure many people are unaware their data has been compromised.
idk where you stand on the "writers vs readers" debate (we are all the same community) but if ao3 life is listing drives, they have access to it, and if you've used your real email to host these drives, you're vulnerable. i can see your FULL NAMES here. be cautious!!!

i agree that there's definitely a repository of ai scraped data somewhere at the very least. but i believe a huge reason all these sites are popping up NOW is bc they're seeing the 'need' as these drive links are getting massive viewership, likes, saves.
no, someone putting your fic in a google drive does not give ai the ability to access your drafts?? i know emotions are high but lets use our logic brains, gang. "ganesh" almost definitely got access to breached data. don't let them manipulate you.
