In 2008 or so my dad bought a 360. He played H3 with his buddies online, and I would come and play Co-op campaign with him. It was one of the first times he and I bonded over something that wasn't football. Before a game one week he told me if I scored 3 TD's he would take me to Walmart and get me my own 360 and a copy of Halo 3 to play online with him. I scored 3 times but one was called back on a holding penalty. After the game I come off the field defeated because one didn't count. He told me that he was proud of me and that the penalty wasn't my fault, and that I did exactly what he had asked. We went and got that 360 and H3. To this day, he and I still play H3 online. This game and franchise created the best memories, and it's so sad to see the direction it's gone now. No one plays Halo on the reg anymore.

Purchased in South Korea in 1952 for $250, Reckless was originally trained as a racehorse before being bought by Marines to carry ammunition. She quickly learned supply routes and often carried ammunition to the front lines without a handler. She also learned to lie down or seek cover during artillery barrages and helped carry wounded Marines away from the fighting. During the Battle of Outpost Vegas in March 1953, Sergeant Reckless made 51 trips in a single day, carrying more than 9,000 pounds (4,100 kg) of ammunition over roughly 35 miles (56 km), much of it under heavy enemy fire. She was wounded twice but continued working throughout the battle. The Marines treated her as one of their own. She slept in their tents, ate with the men, and became famous for eating almost anything, including scrambled eggs, bacon, candy bars, beer, Coca-Cola, and even poker chips and blankets. After the war, Sergeant Reckless was brought to the United States, where she was promoted several times, eventually reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant. She received two Purple Hearts, the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, the Korean Service Medal with three bronze service stars, the United Nations Korea Medal, and numerous other honors, making her one of the most decorated animals in U.S. military history. #archaeohistories

Exceptionally good article on UI design, using Tahoe's regressions as examples of what not to do. Lots of side-by-side examples making the abstract obvious. tonsky.me/blog/tahoe-icons/ Via @daringfireball.

A lot of ppl use fly dot io. It's very easy, but perennially plagued by stability issues. I've resorted to hosting tiny apps on a raspberry pi within my home, with cloudflare tunnels. This is cheap and easy. Can also use coolify by @heyandras if you want to make it super simple to deploy new versions easily with git push (or many other options). It's your personal heroku-lite and I use it for all my apps.

What if the macOS dock and its icons were more dynamic and fluid? Made a little demo that shows message previews, live music, download progress, and more. Pretty happy with how this turned out!
