Even among people under 21, alcohol is tied to roughly 4,000 deaths a year and is the most commonly used substance in that age group. Alcoholโs total damage (lives lost, emergency visits, lost productivity, crime, and medical costs) dwarfs the firearm numbers the meme highlights, yet the graphic treats every other social concern as irrelevant while zeroing in on one mechanism of death.
