Fantastic work by Prof Bill Austin and his co-authors. This adds to our knowledge of #bluecarbon in Scotland. Thanks to @ClimateXChange_ for guiding the process.
Vegetated #coastline, including #seagrass, #mangroves, and #saltmarsh, are under extreme pressure in Scotland and globally. New report from @univofstandrews on the potential for managed realignment to increase #bluecarbon is.gd/8YQUXt #ClimateEmergency #mitigation

New paper by our scientists found that 🏖️beaches in north east of Scotland were up to six times cleaner between 2019 and 2020. 80 beaches were surveyed and the litter weighed. Read the blog ➡️ bit.ly/beach_plastic

Great to see this work being published, well done @mat_pace & our colleague @BillTurrell1 👏🥳
And thanks to all on board the MRV Alba na Mara and MRV Sir John Murray for their help with the surveys🚢🚢
How much organic carbon is in the upper seabed layers of the Firth of Clyde? We mapped this along with a load of other properties - our paper is out now for open peer-review! Read the pre-print and also get some handy high-res seabed maps! @davemarinebio

Tune in tomorrow to hear #MSS scientist @b_berx discussing the @BG10Blueaction project & how ocean prediction & observations can be used in response to #ClimateChange 🌊🌍
Only two days until our @climateurope #climatethursday #webinar with @MISSIONATLANTIC @TRIATLASproject...discussing observations, predictions and climate services in the ocean. Pls retweet!
A great way forward!

Yes. First really practical way of moving forward. Love how they brought everybody along with them with voting.
The approach taken by LOCEAN to adopt 3 measures to reduce its carbon footprint by 50% by 2030 is great to see. Really keen to see if we can explore some of this more in our organisations and community @marinescotland @mastscot @challengersoc @BillTurrell1 @OCSAM_Scot

I’m half way through my Winter beach surveys of #marinelitter it’s been a bit breezy at times, lots of litter, some quiet empty stretches of sand & a bonus #skate #eggcase for my elasmo work 👍 @BillTurrell1 @mcsuk @SharkTrustUK
Interesting find, but perhaps two events are being muddled up? There was a gala duck race in 2015 in Newburgh - but it was in the Foveran Burn, all ducks were returned safe, and none had those markings? Perhaps these were released more recently?

Yes! way back in 2015. >90 in a river that is protected for it's rare ducks!

I think it was accidental but shows how long plastic hangs around. There's a project here if we could find how many were released and track them. #plastic #marineplasstic
Really interesting find Lauren. There is a lot of sand erosion underway in the last few weeks of storms. I wonder if these were "archived" by being buried in the dunes? A great find though ! I started in Marine Scotland in 1986, and I look just as crinkly as the crisp packet.
Wow! I found these ‘vintage’ #crisp packets at the #YthanEstuary today! @GoldenWonderUK could you give me an idea of the yr when I could have sent off for the free tights & colour film? 😂 In 1986 with Smiths @PepsiCo you could get a cool @davidkidjensen cassette!
