There are people inside and outside both Hindu and Muslim communities (in the U.K.) that gain from dividing these two communities. It’s critical that we don’t fall for it. I’m heartened to see this combined effort to improve the environment and life for everyone.

When Marlowe’s British Kitchen opened in Leeds, Rabbi Gilbert asked the Muslim owners, Jenade Yamin and Arabaab “Paddy” Munir if they would consider making it kosher as well as halal. They did not have to. It meant change and cost. Paddy thought about it and said yes.
Now there are halal and kosher fryers side by side and one long queue for fish and chips. Orthodox Jews, Muslim families, neighbours from every background, ordering the same national dish.
Everyone remained unmistakably themselves, they simply widened the table and in that small act, you glimpse the country we can still choose to be.
(My grandfather was a kosher caterer, known for his fish. I inherited none of his skill!) @JewishNewsUK

they claim to care about us and our experiences but only when it was committed by a group of people they don’t like so they can turn us into a weapon for their bigotry. they can’t make it any more obvious they don’t care about us

Spare a thought for Tony Hill who has been working at break neck speed in blazing hot sun to rebuild the Southport mosque wall before the far right can return.
He said: “And if we have to build it again afterwards we will do just that.”

THREAD: Lots of us learned classical music from watching old cartoons, so I’m going to identify the pieces that frequently popped up.
One of the most recognizable is Franz Liszt’s “Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2,” performed by those great piano virtuosos Bugs Bunny and Tom & Jerry.

When people talk about "Gothic architecture" we tend to think of cathedrals and churches.
But the Middle Ages were also full of beautiful town halls, universities, hospitals, and bridges.
So here is a journey through the world of secular Gothic architecture...

(Also, the dev. model that reserved the Union to Westminster was also voluntarily endorsed by the Scottish people in a referendum. So none of this is undemocratic or involuntary. It’s just that the UK is a nation state, not PureGym, where you can just cancel at any time.) (6/6)

You can't uninvent the idea and the code for community microblogging. Twitter wasn't the first instance of it; it just did it much better than previous ones. It won't be the last.

Ronaldo “I don’t respect the manager”
Ronaldo under ETH: Announced he wanted to leave, refused to come on as a substitute, walked off the bench & left before the game had finished.
99% of United fans will be on the side of ETH, which shows how badly Ronaldo has handled this.

Liz Truss was never a plausible prime minister, but her disastrous tenure was a symptom, not the source of her party's problems.
Changing the leader is not enough. The Tory Party needs a serious reckoning with its recent past, & with the forces that made Truss possible. [THREAD]

This week on More or Less, we’ve been digging into the numbers behind rising energy bills.
What’s driving the increase in the price cap? Let’s start with the profits made by the people who sell us our energy - the energy suppliers. 1/13
