Walking is an essential part of life- yet we do not know how the nervous system generates the underlying neural programs.
Please find our sneak-peek preprint on neural generation of locomotion in the mouse:

What does a spinal cord flexor/extensor half-center spiking network's activity look like in neural state space?
It has a characteristic V-shaped trajectory and a very low-dimensional population dynamics (simulation below).

New paper:
How does the spinal cord generate walking? Our answer: the spatial structure of the network of spinal interneurons forms the basis of the generation of movement. 🧵

New preprint:
"Neural manifolds that orchestrate walking and stopping".
Introducing a neural theory for walking and stopping. We test the theory using Neuropixels probes in the lumbar spinal cord of freely moving rats.

Excited to share that my postdoc work is now on bioRxiv! We identify a role for spinal-projecting serotonergic neurons in control of locomotor behavior.

During rhythmic movement, neural activity in the spinal cord is sparse and doesn't show (strong) alternation. Our work showing how a hybrid-CPG model capture this is out in Neural Computation 🧵🪡
