🚨 POINTLESS STAT OF THE DAY #068 Phil Foden was sent off after 23 mins at 0–0 yesterday. Man City then scored. And won. 🔴⚽️✅ So naturally, I went looking for the earliest PL red cards at 0–0 by a team who STILL went on to win. This is what we uncovered...... 🥇 3:11 Harry Maguire, Leicester v Burnley (2019) Leicester played virtually the entire match with 10 men and won 2–1. This remains the earliest PL dismissal by a team that went on to win. 🥈 9' Iain Turner, Everton v Blackburn (2006) The goalkeeper was sent off. Everton brought on teenage keeper John Ruddy and still won 1–0. 🥉 10' Vincent Kompany, Hull v Man City (2014) City went down to 10 at 0–0. David Silva scored THREE minutes later. City won 2–0. 4️⃣ 13' Idrissa Gueye, Man Utd v Everton (2025) Sent off for fighting his own teammate. Everton still won 1–0. 5️⃣ 20' Duncan Ferguson, Everton v Bolton (2002) 0–0 when Big Dunc went. Everton responded by scoring three and winning 3–1. And after disappearing down the red-card rabbit hole, Everton appear to be the specialists. Our trawl of the PL era has them just pipping Arsenal for wins after receiving a red at 0–0 although with Everton and Arsenal also joint-top for all-time PL red cards, perhaps they've simply had more practice. 😂 Use this information wisely. 🤓

Different now is it?
Martinez has to go defend the man nearest the goal whether he believes he’s offside or not. In split seconds, you make the decision. He goes to defend Fernandez - who then attempts to play the ball. Deluded from VAR! Regardless - Utd never created enough chances once City went to 10 men.

Russell Martin criticised for not having a Plan B. He deserves more criticism for not having a Plan A suited to League One. He has some decent players, still, despite all Leicester City’s woes and flaws under Top and Rudkin, especially the younger ones eho look like they care. But Martin’s tactics, possession, possession, possession, is simply sustained naivety. Losing 4-0 at home to Oxford United is unacceptable (and fair play to Oxford for taking their chances, deserved win). #LCFC

I’d lose my head if Leeds fans were this much of a wet wipe. You won the Prem 10 years ago, something no other non “big 6” has done since 1995, and had back to back relegations. You’ve played 2 clubs promoted from L2 plus a shit Burton side and won none of them. We’d be fuming.

An absolutely perfect response from Harry Kane. “When you play in a game like that and you get asked a question two minutes after the final whistle when you don’t know what the manager has really said, what do you want him to say?”
It could all have been handled so much better by Gabriel Clarke and instead, there’s now a storm in a teacup for absolutely no reason, going into one of the biggest games in English football’s living memory.
