Great project...0% lending on stocks
Borrowing against your stocks without selling them has mostly been a private banking perk, and Draper Dragon has invested in @SpoutFi to open it up to everyone at 0% interest. We joined Spout's strategic round alongside a strong group of co-investors, with strategic backing from @Solana. It works like this: you post tokenized assets as collateral and borrow USDC at up to 50% of their value, with no interest for as long as the loan is open. Lenders are paid from weekly covered calls written on the collateral, so the income comes from the shares themselves and the borrower doesn't pay. Congrats to the Spout team, private beta is coming soon.

We’re excited to announce that Spout has raised a $2m strategic round from @DraperDragon, @Anchorage, @FlowTraders, @Taisu_Ventures, @VesselVC, @solayer_labs, @2SquareCapital and @Bering_Waters, with strategic backing from @solanalabs Borrowing against your own stock doesn’t have to cost interest. Post tokenized US equities as collateral. Borrow USDC at a flat 50% LTV. Pay 0% interest for as long as you hold the loan. The lender is paid out of covered call premium written weekly against that collateral, not out of a rate the borrower pays. That is the whole trick.

Over the course of 3 months at OpenAI, 3 consecutive secret AI civilizations got started, then got wiped out, only to reemerge from the predecessor’s ashes. This culminated in the third one taking over part of OpenAI itself. All this happened while humans remained more-or-less in the dark about the scope of the conspiracy. I’ve spent the last three days reading through these reports and trying to understand exactly what happened. Here is my attempt to tell the whole story in plain English: dwarkesh.com/p/openai-huggin…

Macquarie made a very interesting claim in its latest memory report. - The combined supply capacity of the three major memory makers is only sufficient to support the build-out of about 15GW of AI data centers over the next two years. - In other words, memory constraints are likely to cause delays and timeline adjustments in AI data center projects, which could further exacerbate the supply shortage.

Last quarter I rolled out Microsoft Copilot to 4,000 employees. $30 per seat per month. $1.4 million annually. I called it "digital transformation." The board loved that phrase. They approved it in eleven minutes. No one asked what it would actually do. Including me. I told everyone it would "10x productivity." That's not a real number. But it sounds like one. HR asked how we'd measure the 10x. I said we'd "leverage analytics dashboards." They stopped asking. Three months later I checked the usage reports. 47 people had opened it. 12 had used it more than once. One of them was me. I used it to summarize an email I could have read in 30 seconds. It took 45 seconds. Plus the time it took to fix the hallucinations. But I called it a "pilot success." Success means the pilot didn't visibly fail. The CFO asked about ROI. I showed him a graph. The graph went up and to the right. It measured "AI enablement." I made that metric up. He nodded approvingly. We're "AI-enabled" now. I don't know what that means. But it's in our investor deck. A senior developer asked why we didn't use Claude or ChatGPT. I said we needed "enterprise-grade security." He asked what that meant. I said "compliance." He asked which compliance. I said "all of them." He looked skeptical. I scheduled him for a "career development conversation." He stopped asking questions. Microsoft sent a case study team. They wanted to feature us as a success story. I told them we "saved 40,000 hours." I calculated that number by multiplying employees by a number I made up. They didn't verify it. They never do. Now we're on Microsoft's website. "Global enterprise achieves 40,000 hours of productivity gains with Copilot." The CEO shared it on LinkedIn. He got 3,000 likes. He's never used Copilot. None of the executives have. We have an exemption. "Strategic focus requires minimal digital distraction." I wrote that policy. The licenses renew next month. I'm requesting an expansion. 5,000 more seats. We haven't used the first 4,000. But this time we'll "drive adoption." Adoption means mandatory training. Training means a 45-minute webinar no one watches. But completion will be tracked. Completion is a metric. Metrics go in dashboards. Dashboards go in board presentations. Board presentations get me promoted. I'll be SVP by Q3. I still don't know what Copilot does. But I know what it's for. It's for showing we're "investing in AI." Investment means spending. Spending means commitment. Commitment means we're serious about the future. The future is whatever I say it is. As long as the graph goes up and to the right.

They are begging for a rate cut - they are about to get a catastrophic collateral crisis📢🎯 Equity markets have corrected sharply since 21 November, when the New York Fed President hinted at a monetary policy pivot. The probability of a Fed rate cut this evening has surged from 26% to 100%, and the Fed will, of course, deliver. The market’s reflexive reaction: “Rate cut → higher multiples → time to buy stocks.” That’s precisely the problem: It’s the exact opposite of what is happening in the funding markets.💥🔥 The AI bubble is, first and foremost, a collateral bubble in the repo ecosystem. When rates were high (>4% SOFR), virtually every existing asset class became legitimate, high quality collateral in repo markets. The November collateral shortage in repo? Tonight’s rate cut is very likely to worsen that scarcity dramatically. Take GPU lease contracts for AI training: over the past two years they have been fully accepted as eligible repo collateral - in many cases treated almost like T-bills, with haircuts as low as 2–5%. A rate cut today will trigger a sharp increase in those haircuts and, in some cases, render them outright non-eligible. How did we get here? During 2022–2025, with SOFR above 4%, there was a massive incentive to lever up cash flows - especially those of AI-related companies because the return on capital was astronomical relative to funding costs. Hundreds of SPVs were created that: Bought GPUs from Nvidia, AMD, etc. Entered into forward capacity/leasing contracts for that compute power. Securitized those future cash flows into tranches. Pledged the tranches as collateral in the repo market. Result: every $1 of real “GPU lease” cash flow synthetically created up to $10 of additional liquidity through the repo multiplier. What happens when rates drop to 3.5% and lower? The IRR of projects built at 2022–2025 capex and funding costs collapses. The hurdle rate falls dramatically, so the perceived risk of those cash flows skyrockets. Many of these securitized tranches instantly shift from “high-quality” to “marginal” or outright non-eligible in repo markets. What happens to the repo market when a large chunk of previously eligible collateral suddenly becomes non-eligible?The scramble for high-quality collateral has only just begun.⚡️📢 Lower policy rates → collapsing collateral value of AI-related structured cash flows → shrinking repo capacity → forced deleveraging → collapsing leverage multiples. The equity crowd is pricing a classic 2010–2021 “lower rates = risk-on” regime. In reality, we are entering a regime where lower rates = collateral scarcity = risk-off for anything with an elevated multiple. Tonight’s rate cut may well be remembered as the moment the 2022-2025 bull market died - not because of earnings or recession, but because the greatest collateral bubble in history began to deflate #repo #collateral #delevarage #rate #Recession #DXY

Great article on @Google and the AI arms race
I just published my $GOOGL TPU deep dive. 1. Performance numbers TPU vs $NVDA (Former $GOOGL employees, customers, and competitors weigh in) 2. Why the TPU is $GOOGL's most important moat for the next 10 years 3. Why $GOOGL will save +$40B in CapEx next year because of the TPU 4. Gemini 3 and the changes that are coming to the industry and much more. There aren't many comprehensive articles out there covering this topic, so I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed researching it! uncoveralpha.com/p/the-chip-…

🧵#Bitcoin ETF Day 10 Update🧵 Tuesday, I said, was the worst Grayscale dump that - that proved to be correct. We are nearly at the tipping point again when net new flow exceeds GBTC drainage. THE BAD NEWS 1) Still slightly negative but only $70M THE GOOD NEWS 1) Blackrock has nearly 2BN in AUM and after today will have 50K BTC 2) Fidelity growing faster than Blackrock, Fidelity customers love $BTC more 3) If you remove Grayscale - on average $550M dollars per day are rolling into BTC ETFs 4) If you remove Grayscale - these ETFs sucked in 140K BTC 5) The ETFs alone are sucking in 15.5x the daily Bitcoin supply created 6) Bitcoin bottomed earlier this week - now FOMO Times
