The word "regime" has only one purpose : to delegitimize an elected government. You will never see the term used for western governments. There's no such thing as a British regime or American regime. But people casually toss around the word in the Indian context. It's subliminal messaging, not an innocent mistake. Other examples : 1. Businessman vs. oligarch 2. Protester vs. rioter 3. Reunification vs. annexation 4. Democracy promotion vs. foreign interference 5. Sanctions vs. economic coercion 6. Intelligence gathering vs. spying 7. Lobbying vs. corruption 8. Humanitarian intervention vs. aggression A regime change is a thinly veiled euphemism for a violent overthrow of a government. That's what happened in Bangladesh, Nepal and many other places. A non-violent way to change government has a different name : elections.
