Why @RitikaChopra__ The profile lays out his bureaucratic career in detail, Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand, NHAI Chairman, Secretary to the Lokpal, district postings, and more, but leaves out one particularly relevant chapter: his stint as Additional Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Government of India. That omission is difficult to square with the available record. Official government and IIT records identify Sandhu as Additional Secretary (Technical Education), Department of Higher Education, including his role on IIT governing and finance bodies. PIB also records that he held the Higher Education post before becoming NHAI Chairman. Now look at the reporter’s own professional background. @RitikaChopra__ was previously the National Education Editor and Chief of the National Bureau, Government, at The Indian Express, with responsibility for reporting on government policy and education. Her profile specifically says she previously tracked the Education Ministry and now Election Commission. And today, she is reporting extensively on Sandhu in his role as Election Commissioner. So the question is not whether Sandhu worked in Higher Education. The documentary record establishes that. The question is why a journalist whose professional beat specifically included the Education Ministry would leave that chapter out while presenting his background today. As for any claim that Chopra deliberately cultivated Sandhu as a source, that would require evidence beyond the screenshots. But the omission itself is fair to question. If the full history matters when assessing a public official, it should not become inconvenient when that history changes the context of today’s story.
