🚨 NEW: Andy Burnham has announced people on buses who vape, play loud music, litter or threaten others will face £100 fines from today

Andy Burnham is fighting for what is best for Britain rather than sticking with status quo.

Thank you to everyone who supported us on the doors and on the phones in Holborn and St Pancras today.
Together, we have shown what hope means in Camden.

Congratulations to Sagal Abdi-Wali, Labour MP for Holborn and St Pancras!

This didn’t happen overnight. We kept pushing.
Residents told me about high charges and how difficult it was to challenge managing agents.
I took those issues to Parliament and now the Government has committed to independent regulation and mandatory licensing ✅

In the next Parliament, Labour will build a National Care Service. This will be the biggest change to the provision of care in Britain since we established our NHS in the 1940s.
At Labour Party Conference, Prime Minister Andy Burnham explained why.
Everyone knows that Britain’s social care system is broken. And for decades, politicians have failed to fix it. That’s left millions of older people facing care costs which are too much to bear, and living in conditions which are not up to scratch.
It’s also increased pressure on our NHS. Visit any hospital and you will see the impact: older people who should be supported at home forced into A&E, and beds occupied by people who could leave hospital, but can’t get access to the help they need as they recover.
We won’t let this system continue.
So, the Labour way of looking after older people in our country will be a fundamental change.
By setting up a National Care Service, we’ll build a way of delivering care with the same principles as the NHS: where everyone contributes and everyone is covered.
Older people will be able to access good quality, free personal care with support for their needs. And our National Care Service will deliver care in the home wherever possible, giving older people the respect they deserve.
We’ll pay for it by adjusting the triple lock.
The triple lock will stay the same throughout this parliament. Labour pledged it in our manifesto and we’ll keep that promise.
From April 2030, we’ll adjust it, but it will always continue to rise. We will guarantee that the state pension will rise every year by either inflation or by 2.5% - whichever is higher.
Nobody’s pension will go down, and the state pension will be on a sustainable footing for the years to come.
We will start laying the groundwork for the National Care Service now, and introduce it in the next Parliament.
So this is Labour’s deal.
A state pension that rises every year.
And a high-quality National Care Service to give peace of mind in later life.

A new National Care Service. Greater public control of water, energy, and housing. A National Commission on Electoral Reform. Strengthening our relationship with Europe. Reforming the education and welfare system.
Today I set out a different path for Britain.
You may disagree with some or all of what I have said today. But I have given you what you often say is missing from politics.
Honesty, ideas and a clear direction for the country we all love.
If you agree with enough of what I have said, get behind this plan. And get behind each other.
It's time to draw a line.
To move beyond a decade of drift and division.
To bring a spirit of unity and positivity back to our country.
To unlock the working-class aspiration that is still there in every postcode.
To hope again.

We can't carry on as we are.
Politics as usual has taken Britain backwards, and more of the same won't get us where we need to be.
Today, I'll set out a different path for our country.
That means having an honest conversation about the things we've ignored for too long, from fixing social care and tackling youth unemployment to giving people more control over energy, water and housing.
Hope comes from honesty.
It comes from saying the things politicians usually avoid, being straight about the challenges we face, and having the courage to fix them.
That's exactly what I will do.

Ahead of Yom Kippur beginning this evening, I want to send my warmest wishes to Jewish communities across the UK, and in particular to the Heaton Park community as they observe this sacred day whilst holding the memory of last year's tragic attack.
G'mar Chatimah Tovah to all those observing, and may the year ahead bring peace, strength and hope.

The Labour Party wishes Jewish communities in the UK and across the world a blessed Yom Kippur.

From this Sunday, Chiltern passengers will travel on services back in public hands.
Each step in renationalising the railway enables us to tackle what people care about most – better and more reliable services.
We're building a railway that puts passengers, not profit first.

Britain should be a country that makes things.
It's how we create good jobs, give more opportunities to young people, and build pride in our communities.
That's why today’s announcement from McLaren matters.
They’re backing Britain, keeping design, engineering and manufacturing here at home - with plans to build their engines in-house for the first time.
Their £500m investment will drive growth far beyond their factory gates, creating a thousand jobs, supporting thousands more in the supply chain, and providing apprenticeships to young people.
This is what reindustrialising Britain looks like.
