I was there at the Rodney King riots and these guys were nowhere to be found. They staged the photos afterwards when it was safe

Voter ID is such a dumb hill to die on. Even in Alabama, which has super strict voter ID laws, you can get a free voter ID. You can literally have the mobile ID team come to your house. But at the same time voter ID laws don't do anything so I don't understand the appeal of them
from what i gather from the voter ID debate in the US, some states dont have universal suffrage, and are essentially car-owners' republics

I have made many magical memories in the Santa Monica Mountains. They are not the most impressive mountains in California but they are super accessible from the west side of LA, and have tons of fascinating geology and anthropology.

I think if this mountain range was anywhere east of the Mississippi river it would be one of the most visited bits of nature in the country. We really are spoiled for nature in California. And the recreation is year round in the Santa Monica mountains.

They're really just an afterthought on the regional topo map. But they have so much life in them. Deer, mountain lions, bears, all within an hour of the largest metro on the west coast
