A one time N2M+ investment in NGX made January this year. The Nigerian market has impressed me a lot.
Watching Alex Honnold, one of the greatest free solo climbers in the world, take on a ropeless ascent of Taipei 101, Taiwan's iconic skyscraper and one of the tallest buildings on Earth 🇹🇼, is absolutely breathtaking.
I'm equal parts terrified for him and completely in awe. Rooting hard for a safe and successful climb.
Go Alex!!!!🚀🧗♂️
BREAKING: Cuba urgently demands the reaction of the international community against the criminal attack by the U.S. on Venezuela -President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez
"Cuba denounces and urgently demands the reaction of the international community against the criminal attack by the U.S. on Venezuela. Our ZonaDePaz is being brutally assaulted. State terrorism against the brave Venezuelan people and against Our America.
Homeland or Death We Shall Overcome!"
I find both excerpts complementary (you’re welcome to disagree🙃)
On page 8, I think the Supreme Court was highlighting the deliberate drafting choice in S. 305 by comparing to the constitutions of India and Pakistan, which expressly authorize the President to impose presidential rule or suspend state institutions to the Nigerian constitution which consciously omits any such explicit power and concluded that that deliberate silence underscores Nigeria's deep commitment to federalism and the autonomy of states in ‘normal’ circumstances.
On page 10 excerpt however, the majority (per Idris JSC) appears to now be saying that this silence does not equate to an outright prohibition. Idris JSC reiterated that S. 305 grants the President authority to adopt “extraordinary measures” required to restore peace and order during a validly declared state of emergency. By avoiding any detailed prescription of those measures, the constitution intentionally vests the President with wide discretion. This discretion includes the temporary suspension of elected state officials (as seen in the Rivers State scenario), though it stops short of allowing permanent displacement or takeover of democratic state institutions.
The statement…“Outside a validly declared state of emergency, the President possesses no power whatsoever…” serves only to reaffirm the federalist foundation: federal intrusion into state governance is absolutely prohibited in ordinary times, but may be temporarily permitted in a true national crisis under the framework of S. 305. 🤷♂️ In essence, the 6-1 majority's position is straightforward and unequivocal: temporary suspensions of state officials are constitutionally valid during a validly declared emergency, while permanent ones are impermissible.
This is what I make from reading the judgement and to be clear, I personally disagree with the majority. By deliberately avoiding the core substantive questions on technical grounds, the Supreme Court has clouded the issue further and issued obiter dicta that sow more confusion than resolution.
Replying to @dondekojo
I’ve read it. I don’t believe they were wrong. SC said this in the same judgment and it can only have one meaning.
This is the Nigerian Embassy in New York (Nigerian House) not the UN Building. It was not a #UNGA event and she did not even speak there.
The clout chasing is insane.
Common investment regret. I was convinced by their fundamentals but was still a little hesitant, hence, decided to play with $5k ish worth in February. Up 98% now. 😅
My $2000 investment into $HOOD has turned into $8600 over the course of 15 months
My only regret is not buying more
