Black Muslim history is part of Britain’s story, not a footnote to it. ⠀ This October, we are proud to sponsor the @blackmuslimawards 2026, recognising the Black Muslim individuals and organisations making an impact across Britain. ⠀ From community leadership and public service to business, sport, culture and the arts, the awards celebrate achievement, amplify inspiring work and give Black Muslim excellence the recognition it deserves. ⠀ We look forward to sponsoring and supporting the African and African Caribbean Muslim Association on 17th October in London at Saffron Gallery. ⠀ Photo credits: @Blakmuslim aacmuslim.co.uk #BlackHistoryMonth #BlackMuslimAwards #BlackMuslimExcellence #BritishMuslimTrust

78 verified attacks and incidents. 64 mosques. On average a mosque is attacked once every five days. Today, we launch, ‘A Year of Division - One Mosque Attacked Every Five Days’. A Briefing on 78 Verified Attacks on Mosques, July 2025 - July 2026. The findings reveal a disturbing escalation from hateful symbols on mosque walls to six arson attacks, two worshippers stabbed and two premeditated mass-casualty plots. These are only the incidents we were able to verify. The true scale of hostility directed at mosques is likely to be higher. Read the full report here: britishmuslimtrust.co.uk/res… Urgent, coordinated action is needed to keep mosques and their communities safe. #BritishMuslimTrust #AYearOfDivision #AntiMuslimHostility #Islamophobia

We are disappointed with Mr Gilligan’s piece in The Spectator.  Over three days (from Wednesday 30 September to Friday 2 October) Mr Gilligan sent BMT a series of questions relating to our forthcoming report. We provided detailed responses and repeatedly explained that the report, including the underlying methodology and evidence, would be published within days. We asked him to consider that report before drawing conclusions about the data. The suggestion that BMT simply refused to provide supporting evidence is misleading. After a third set of  questions in three days – sent at 02:42 on Friday 2 October 2026 - we strongly suggested to Mr Gilligan that he wait to read the report before he published any piece. We reiterated that the report would be published in the coming days. Instead, Mr Gilligan and the Spectator have published a piece based on a forthcoming report they have not read. The article quotes part of BMT’s response concerning the time available to answer the third set of questions. The full response was as follows: “Thank you for your third set of questions.   We do not have time to answer these today. Our full report is published in the coming days and the issues you raise are addressed within.   There is no good reason for you to publish ahead of reading that report, and as we have already made clear we reserve the right to take action should you misrepresent our work or our position in relation to the suggestions you have made.”   The report provides important context concerning the scope, definitions and methodology that is absent from the article. 1.         A Mosque is attacked in this country on average once every five days. In the last year, attacks on Mosques are at an unprecedented level, which is the basis of our report and our commentary. As explained in the report, our recording includes Mosques, Community Centres and related buildings. We assess the annual figures in line with common practice. Fluctuations within the year do not invalidate the annual trend.  2.         The East London Central Synagogue on Nelson Street was attacked whilst in the process of being purchased by a Muslim group. This process was accompanied by significant online hate towards the local Muslim community as the process developed 3.         Mass-casualty plots are extremely serious, and we reject any suggestion that they should not be included in this analysis, or that the inclusion of two foiled plots undermines the data on anti-Muslim hatred and hostility targeted at Mosques. Including serious disrupted plots is consistent with established practice in terrorism and community-security reporting. 4.        Arson attacks cause harm that endangers life.  5.         Data collection on individual incidents and attacks against mosques was conducted by three methods: direct reporting to BMT's confidential helpline, third-party reports, and publicly available information. In-line with common practice, those reports are treated with pure confidentiality to protect victims.  BMT welcomes scrutiny of its work. However, that scrutiny should engage with the report’s actual definitions, methodology and evidence. We invite readers to consider the report in full and have asked The Spectator to correct any significant inaccuracies or misleading impressions in its article. Mr Gilligan accuses BMT of exaggerating the threat to the Muslim community. Recent polling reveals that more than half of Britain’s Muslims have experienced some form of religious prejudice or hatred within the last 12 months

Anti-Muslim hostility is not an abstract issue. It affects how people feel in their homes, communities and everyday lives. Speaking to @itvnews, members of Muslim communities shared the hostility, fear and uncertainty they have experienced. These are different experiences, but they are not isolated. As our CEO, @AkeelaAhmed MBE, explains, misinformation and harmful narratives about Muslims must be challenged before they spread further. The British Muslim Trust’s new report will explore the wider pattern behind these experiences and why action is urgently needed. Earlier this week, we joined local leaders, policing colleagues, faith representatives and young cadets at the London Islamic Cultural Society’s Wightman Road Mosque to mark #NationalInclusionWeek 2026. Among those taking part were @CatherineWest1 , @BambosMP, Haringey Superintendent Hannah Hayes and neighbourhood policing colleagues, Spurs in the Community, Haringey Volunteer Police Cadets, the Haringey Multi-Faith Forum and @haringeycouncil officers working across education, inclusion and the digital environment. This year’s theme, “Build Trust. Navigate Change”, reminds us that meaningful inclusion depends on strong relationships, open conversations and ensuring communities are heard and involved. Thank you to Bibi Khan MBE and Inspector Asad Ikram for the invitation, and to the volunteers whose warmth and hospitality brought everyone together. National Inclusion Week brings this work into focus, but meaningful inclusion must be put into practice 365 days a year. #BritishMuslimTrust #Haringey #Inclusion #WorkingTogether #Community

Building stronger communities starts with creating spaces where everyone feels respected, included and able to belong. A new national community cohesion framework is being developed for students at colleges, universities and student unions through a partnership between @educationgovuk, @SalfordUni, and @nusuk. Our CEO, @AkeelaAhmed, is part of the expert advisory group supporting this work alongside representatives from education, civil society, faith and student organisations. Co-designed with students from diverse backgrounds and experiences, the framework will provide agreed principles and practical guidance to help education settings strengthen belonging, respectful engagement and positive relationships. For British Muslim Trust, it is important that Muslim students’ experiences and perspectives contribute to work that shapes safer, more inclusive education communities. We look forward to supporting this important work. Click the link below to learn more: gov.uk/government/news/educa… If you have experienced or witnessed anti-Muslim hate, support is available. Spoiler alert: Anti-Muslim hostility is not something Muslim communities should be expected to confront alone. Our joint research with @britishfuture found that 63% of GB adults surveyed recognise that prejudice against Muslims exists, while 61% support government action to tackle it. Awareness matters, but it must lead to action. From government and institutions to workplaces, communities and individuals, we all have a role to play. Recognise it. Challenge it. Report it. Experienced or witnessed anti-Muslim hate?
