Seeing Saturn in a neighbor's big telescope as a kid is what got me interested in astronomy. And it was only a fraction of this. This is art.
I used a 14” telescope in my homemade observatory to capture Saturn and Tethys, one of its moons. You can see spokes on the rings, my first time capturing them so vividly!

Starting to get the feeling that @USJobCreation has my office bugged 😅... a long time friend and customer just asked for custom versions of these for his old school Bronco project.

That's cool as heck. Was involved in paintball history for years and never saw one. Who would have thought that 5 decades later it would turn into "The Survival Game" and then an entire sport.
Robert Pauli Scherer is the reason paintball ammunition exists… thanks to his rotary die encapsulation technique. hellenicmi.org/robert-pauli-…

This is a pretty cool idea. I have been thinking that it could be a cool move to shut down the shop and go work for SpaceX as a welder or fabricator, especially since Musk has mentioned all employees are going to have access to space travel eventually.
Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America. This will be the first of many.

Seriously, shut up. The amount of taxes we have to pay is ridiculous. Let me lay it out for ya, son. I work hard all week and earn a salary, which comes in a biweekly paycheck. But before I see a cent of it, the federal government takes its share. Depending on your income bracket, they take 10–37% of that right off the top. Then, it gets taxed again at 15.3% for FICA: 12.4% gets stolen for Social Security and 2.9% goes to Medicare. Then depending on which state you live in, you might be required to pay state income tax. States like Florida and Tennessee have none, some have a flat rate (e.g., Idaho and Georgia), and others have progressive rates based on income brackets. In California, high income earners take a 13.3% hit. Then after the federal and state governments have gotten their greedy hands on my paycheck, suppose I decide to be responsible and save a portion of what's left in a savings account and earn a little interest on it. Guess what? The IRS wants a cut of that, too. So, the money I earned that was already taxed is now subject to the same income taxes. Let's now suppose I decide to invest some of that in the stock market. I buy shares in a company (e.g., Tesla), take on the risk of losing my investment, and hopefully make a profit. Well, if I sell those shares for a gain, Uncle Sam comes knocking on my door again. Depending on how long I held the investment and my taxable income, I may owe 0%, 15%, or 20% in federal long-term capital gains taxes, potentially another 3.8% in net investment income tax, plus applicable state taxes. And short-term gains can be taxed at the ordinary income tax rates of 10–37%. And if I decide to spend my money? You guessed it. More taxes, baby! 45 states and many localities impose sales taxes, meaning I get taxed again when I buy groceries, clothes, household appliances, consumer electronics, and practically anything else. In some places, the combined state and local sales taxes exceed 10%. Louisiana's sales tax alone is 10.11%! Wanna buy a house with the money you have spent years saving? Congratulations, bucko! Now you're responsible for paying property taxes, which you will be obligated to pay every single year. And if you fail to pay it for long enough, you will eventually lose the property through a tax sale or foreclosure. So much for actually owning something, right? Wanna buy a vehicle? Depending on your state, you may owe sales tax and annual registration fees. And in some states (my home state of Virginia comes to mind), you are required to pay property taxes on that, too. Then, every time you fill up your tank at the pump, you have to pay gas taxes. The federal government collects $0.18 / gallon, and state and local governments pile their own taxes on top of that. Now, suppose I decide not to spend or invest any of my remaining money at all. I just keep it in cash. Well, inflation gradually erodes its purchasing power away year after year. It's not an enforced tax, but a hidden one that the federal government has done nothing to stop because we're no longer on the Gold Standard and we run massive deficits each year that is financed by monetary expansion (i.e., “printing”) to pay for socialist welfare and wealth transfer programs as well as endless wars in the Middle East. The bottom line is that I get taxed when I work hard and earn money. I get taxed again on the interest when I save that money. I get taxed a third time on the profits when I invest it. I get taxed when I spend it. I get taxed for “owning” property. And I get taxed when I drive. And yes, I'm much aware that we need at least some taxation to pay for things like national defense, public roads, and basic services to have a functioning society. Nobody really disagrees with that. But it does not mean every tax is justified or that the government should have an unlimited claim on the fruits of our labor. And if you look at the state of our roads in many states (Pennsylvania and New York's roads suck ass, Alabama's are nice, however) and public schools, it's abundantly clear that our tax dollars aren't being used wisely. Our founding fathers waged a revolution against Great Britain over far less atrocities than this.

Seizing the house is simpler to enforce. And good lord, will you people grow up? A healthy society has public goods. That requires taxation, you goddam baby.

I never figured out good settings for @3dxtech Economy PLA. Bought a few rolls of it because it was ~$11 for 750g, and their intention was a lower temp material that was good for classrooms and such. I guess its intended for slower machines? 180c is way to high, 165 is too low, and between is iffy too.

I see a lot of talk about Bread and Circuses today because of the Tesla Roaster demo. You know what, let some of us enjoy the intermission between the "doing nothing about fraud" season, begging (election) season, and the publicly funded sports seasons, while we try and ignore that the bread costs $7 a loaf, for just a couple days.

Lina, you don't know the honest truth. In the military, you got your POGs... Person Other than a Grunt. Guys who don't shoot anything. You need them, because you need all sorts of specialties, but you can't trust their big-picture judgement, because the overall mission of the military is shootin' people, and they don't do that. In civilization, we have POMs. Person Other than a Maker. Dudes what don't build things. You might need them. But you shouldn't take them too seriously, or listen to them too much, because on some fundamental level, they are never going to get it. They are never going to understand. The fundamental task of civilization is making things, and POMs don't do that. "This is just a mash-up of existing technology" is the most POM-like typing you could ever hope to see. It's a tell that someone has never done a significant engineering project in a technical role. Experienced engineers not only understand differently, we eat, sleep and breathe the basic reality that 99% of engineering challenges are "get mechanism to work with other mechanism". Without breaking, shaking itself apart or blowing up. Every basic scientific principle behind the internal combustion automobile was understood by the ancient Greeks and Romans. And yet they were not only unable to harness those principles to make a primitive steam-powered automobile, they were unable to conceive of the very idea, because their ability to implement and integrate wasn't advanced enough. If you look at everything that Elon Musk has ever done, every company he has ever built, every technology he has ever brought to market, none of it was a purely new invention. It was ALL taking stuff that already kinda worked, and making it do new things. And not just do them, but do them so well that they actually became practical. SpaceX didn't invent the rocket. They made it reusable. Tesla didn't invent the electric motor or the battery. They made them practical for ground transportation. Neurallink didn't invent electrical nerve interfaces. They made them control a computer UI. This shit is incredibly hard. If you try to use the known principle of a cold-gas thruster to make a car fly, you're going to crash and blow up a lot. You're going to have to make mistakes, and fix them, one by one, until you run out of mistakes and the thing flies. Real engineers, real makers, know that this is what the word engineering means. POMs don't get it. Lina doesn't understand what she saw. She thinks she saw a publicity stunt to impress yokels. No. That was a publicity stunt to impress engineers. It wasn't a demonstration of a flying car at all. It was a demonstration of the engineering capabilities of team. It was a flex. "Look," they said, "we can reify the Gernsback continuum. Give us your silliest, low-effort science fiction meme tech, and give us enough time, and we'll make it real." The purpose of making a flying car isn't to let you do a jetpack leap over traffic. It's to learn all the little implementation details and balancing tradeoffs and gotchas that you have to master to make a car fly. It's not the big scientific discoveries that build civilization. By themselves, they are nothing but curiosities. What builds civilization is all the little discoveries that you make when you try to get the big ones to stop crashing and blowing up. When someone does that on a unprecedented level, you either help them, or you stay out of the way and keep your ignorant POM opinions to yourself.
I'm not an Elon hater. I'm just telling you the Honest Truth: This is a marketing stunt. The technology is quite old. Just nobody ever thought of bolting it on a car. Because it's pointless. Porsche or Ferrari could also build something like this if they wanted, but they don't, because it's not worth it for them. It's worth it for Elon though, because his entire brand is all about having the halo of futurism. His marketing scales especially well with tech gimmicks like this, which is why he is financially incentivised to do them, while others aren't. Again, I'm not hating, but actually educating yall. This is not engineering genius. It's marketing genius.

Cool flying cars aside, theres some more future tech info coming out today about nuclear fusion. The tungsten doping issue is pretty big, since a lot of these experimental reactors have tungsten walls.

Didnt think of this possible issue, but Ive openly criticized people who seal up their rock sliders and use them as air capacity for tools. One good hit, and boom.
How big is the nitrogen booster tank in that flying roadster from Tesla? It’s not flammable but what if it crashed? Would a giant bottle of nitrogen explode or fire like a projectile out of the vehicle? I mean it’s cool as hell tho…

A few years ago, I had a scathing review of our XJ t-case kits. A team was getting ready for King of Hammers, put in our kit in their mildly modified XJ, and had the 231 blow out in 2 miles. After the review went public (and a highly followed page) they did a teardown of the case, and it turned out the linkage was not the problem, it had been "remanufactured" and was full of water and rust. They retracted the review and posted a correction to FB, after being on the phone with them for a half hour and apologizing for it. No idea how they placed, but think they finished. So, it happens.
